Not a fan. Did not like the writing style, which reminded me of 18th century British lit. I thought it was too slow paced and too much scene setting. Absolutely not my kind of book. I read it because it was supposed to be about selkies, but the only time that was really brought up was right near the end, although hinted throughout the book. Didn't like it.

Recommends it for: lovers of Scottish mythology, fantasy
Read this when I was about 12 or so and really liked it; I suspect I would enjoy it less now.

Oppenheim makes heavy use of Scottish dialect; you've been warned if that style of writing is an irritant instead of an enhancement. I enjoyed it, but it did make for a more deliberate read.

This is one of the only fantasy books I've read that involves Silkie lore.
