As a farmer-to-be, this was the first book I read on farming, and it was the perfect intro for me. It's a great "shallow and wide" overview of the practicalities of organic farming. I would recommend it as a first book for anyone getting into farming that's new to the topic. It's a little dry and practical though, so I'd pair it with something more focused on heart, values, and culture.

An Organic Farming for Dummies!
By organic farming it means small-scale, in tune with nature, pastural, local farming - not the commercial scale organic - despite being based and focused on the USDA certification rules. Just goes to show how rules are always open to interpretation.
