Time Out Stockholm

Rate this book
Strung across over 14 islands, where Lake Mälaren joins the Baltic Sea, Stockholm's watery vistas make it Scandinavia's most beautiful city. The second edition of the Time Out Stockholm guide provides an in-depth look at the city's its 13th-century origins on Gramla Stan, the grand boulevards of Ostermalm, the bohemian bars of Söder, the green open spaces of Djurgården, and the shopping heartland of Norrmalm. The guide also goes beyond the city to explore Viking ruins, royal palaces, and fairy-tale castles around Lake Malaren; ferry rides across the Baltic to Tallinn and Helsinki; and the best of the 24,000 islands of the Swedish archipelago, the largest in the world.

I was very impressed with this Stockholm guide. On my way to Stockholm, I started reading about the various neighborhoods, the city's history, literature, museums, music venues, society and modern life. The book was very informative on all fronts. During my weekend in the city, I relied exclusively on this book and was never disappointed. Many travel guides avoid color pictures because of high printing costs - not Time Out. Be it restaurants, museums, or galleries, this guide gives you the full description in conjunction with the photograph. The book is also well organized, has a decent index, and overall is just a joy to read. The maps were useful when I walked miles across the city, and the restaurant recommendations were spot on in terms of price level, quality, and interior style. In sum, Time Out has published an essential and comprehensive guide book for your trip to Stockholm.

Great as usual!
Unfortunately the latest one was released in 2007, hopefully there will be a new edition around soon.
