Our aim is simple: to take readers on a guided tour through the bowels of commerce and society and the galaxies of commercial inspiration. This trip is based on the challenge that we are all citizens of a world dominated by markets, whether we like it or not. The craze of markets surrounds us, and we live in a society where only money matters; freedom is not always synonymous with happiness. Technological opportunities do not necessarily lead to profit.

Preface by Jonas Ridderstråle.

I had the privilege to translate it into Romanian and it influenced the way I used to think. It made me bolder in approaching my career path. I saw somebody said the authors tried too much. I disagree. I met them in person and attended one of their conferences as well. Both of them are brilliant and up to date and fancy and crazy exactly as in the book.

Excellent book. Clear & well researched. Will appeal to the creative in us all. Written 10 years ago but worthwhile in trying to understand impact of technology and recession.

If I had read this book in 2005, it would have evaporated my brain. Now, most of the areas covered are not new to me. The book includes a lot of insight on new economy, social and technological change. Amazingly, some parts seem outdated already in 2017, which shows how much change occurred within last 10 years.
Nevertheless, a highly recommended read for all who aspire to understand the modern world.

Once again an excellent read, and once again wish I had read this 10 years ago. Many of the things discussed in this book have happened. If you want to read a business book or start a business, this is the book for you.

A good, easy to read management book, with lots of points to make you think. At times I did feel that they authors were trying too hard to make it hip and trendy, which always comes across as false.

It started me off by making me feel slightly queasy, as it was very focused on saying that individualism is what is prevelant these days and was in fact the way forward. Luckily, they went on to say how it was a good thing, but it should be used to make a change and to work with others.

The karaoke comes from the fact that so often we are just singing someone else's words and tune and we should write our own to move forward.

A good book, but I still came away feeling that individualism is the way forward and that you should just focus on you, which I don't like

Again, a wonderful written business book from those two super authors. While the book title might be a bit misleading, it's all about INDIVIDUALITY. It's about experiencing and expressing our individuality in life (mostly through the context of business). Business if floaded with copy-cats. This book is a manifesto against copy-cat business (or karaoke capitalism).

Understanding this is like understanding outsourcing. Executives used to believe that 2+2=5. Now it is 5-2=7 because the more non-core activities you place outside the firm the higher the value you can generate. Funky :-)

I liked the cultural insights that the book provides, but I'm not such a big fan of the "management" approach. Unfortunately, I read the Romanian translation of the book and I am convinced that the book would have sounded a lot better in English. Some of the entertaining phrases the authors are using sound plain cheesy in Romanian. Both forced and artificial. At points the translation is unprofessional. You cannot translate "Give people a hammer and they will only see the nails" with "Dati-le oamenilor un ciocan si vor vedea numai UNGHIILE".

Somehow a disappointing book. Format makes it hard to read, might have nuggets of wise advise here and there but the authors should have paid less attention to form and more to substance.

"In the world of karaoke capitalism there is endless individual choice. But this costs. You can pay
either in cash or competence. Inside the karaoke club regions, companies and single human
beings face the ultimate choice: copy the others or create your own future. Benchmarking and
best practice will merely get you to the middle. Don’t imitate – innovate."
