April 19, 2015I read this once when I was in a punishment (my mother had made me sit in a corner until I tied together 50 pieces of grass, but I wouldn't do it so I read this book instead. Don't remember what I was punished for, wouldn't you know it). I found myself angry with the water sprites! They have no right to take someone's child, especially on such a merry occasion. Some creatures think they can do whatever they want, as if they're above anyone else! It's dismaying they think they can get away with these things! If you can speak like a human being, surely you have a conscience? We all do. Drat! They're so unreasonable!

My favorite part was when the baby went downstream. No, my favorite part was when Jessie found the moon stone!

The Fairy Realm series are wholesome lighthearted reads featuring a secret fairy realm found through a doorway at the edge of the garden. There's magic and mythical creatures and miniature horses that talk (because what else would you find in a secret fairy realm? duh.) It's reminiscent of Shirley Barber's gorgeous picture books albeit with less impressive artwork (Shirley Barber is incredibly talented). It's a good series for tween girls. I loved this series as a kid, they were imaginative and magical and I loved every minute. I'm pretty sure this series is what started my love of charm bracelets too.
The Water Sprites
Jessie is thrilled to be invited to Jewel's Welcoming party at Lirralee. She can't wait to attend but she gets a little delayed when Mrs Tweedie stops by. Maybelle, Patrice and Giff have to deliver the food so Jessie ends up walking by herself, following the trail of daisies the gang left for her.
She's minding her own business when she's attacked by the mud wubbles. I did not like the idea of mud toad like things at all. Totally gross. She's freaking out when she's beckoned to the other side of the reeds by a water sprite! The water sprites have hilarious names, the one who sort of rescues her is called Cool-of-the-Evening.
The water sprites lives in the Finding Pool which Granny has always told Jessie about and praised it's beauty. Unfortunately it's no longer so beautiful - it's shrinking. The stream the water comes from is blocked and the water sprites are unwilling to venture upstream to unblock it. Jessie agrees to find the blockage and help the sprites replenish the Finding Pool.
Not far from the Finding Pool, she finds a net filled with various debris and proceeds to clear the path, allowing the water to refill the Finding Pool. Happy with her good deed she heads onwards to the party at Lirralee.
Unfortunately her good deed isn't as welcomed in Lirralee. The people of Lirralee have been at war with the water sprites ever since the water sprites accused them of stealing their precious Moon Stone. Jessie prevents a war by encouraging everyone to recreate the day the Moon Stone went missing leading to it being found.
I'm not sure that I loved this one as much as the rest of the series. Before Jessie tries to recreate the scene, she first tries to trick the water sprites into accepting a fake Moon Stone. I didn't love that bit. It felt very out of character for Jessie to attempt it to be honest.
I did like that Rosemary (Jessie's mum) manages to put Mrs Tweedie in her place. Mrs Tweedie has been sprouting nonsense about Mr Wiseman having stolen her ring. Rosemary makes her recreate the events leading up to it going missing and manages to find that Mrs Tweedie just misplaced it. I liked that her mum was the one to save the day in that regard rather than it always being Granny.
When she returns home, Jessie has a tiny golden flute charm for her bracelet. Target audience will definitely love it. 5 stars for them. From me though, 3.5 stars.

Hey everyone, I just read the most magical book ever – "The Water Sprites"! It's all about these awesome creatures called Water Sprites who live in this super cool place called the Finding Pool.
So, the Water Sprites are really upset because someone stole their Moon Stone, and now they won't give back anything that floats down to their pool until they get it back. It's like a big mystery, and Jessie, the main character, has to help them out.
The book is full of adventure and mystery! Jessie has to figure out who took the Moon Stone and how to get it back to the Water Sprites. She goes on this big quest through the magical realm, meeting all sorts of interesting creatures along the way.
I loved the way the author described the Finding Pool and the world of the Water Sprites – it felt like I was right there with Jessie, exploring everything for myself!
One of my favorite parts was when Jessie finally solved the mystery and helped the Water Sprites. It was so exciting and made me feel really happy!

The conflict resolution surprised me because it broke from the mold. It had a little "PSYCHE!" moment, and I appreciate that. But the explanation for the loss of the moonstone was just a bit outlandish. Even for a book about fairies and water sprites.

re-read as an adult: I would change the true location of the Moon Stone but everything else was pretty good! I really like how the conflict was handled!

This book is mainly about a girl named Jessie. She lives with her grandmother, Jessica, and her mother. Her grandmother is the queen of the Realm. Her mother never believed in magic, so Jessie and her grandmother decided to keep it a secret from her mom.
Jessie is invited to a party in the Realm, to welcome a new born baby. The baby's name is Jewel. On her way, she gets stuck in Mud Wobbles path. Then a Water Sprite, called Cool of the Evening, save her from them. In return, she clears a blockage on their small Water Fall.
Jessie made it to the party late. Everyone was waiting for her, so the party can start.
Later, she finds out the blockage was important, because baby Jewel went into the Sprite's lake! Now the Sprites won't give him back, unless they find their Moon Stone.

Jessie visits the fairy realm to attend a party, but ends up nearly being the cause of a full-scale war between the water sprites and other fairies. The water sprites believe that the other fairies stole something very valuable from them. They end up taking a hostage, basically, and it's up to Jessie to figure out how to defuse the situation.
She manages to do so, but in a way that she couldn't have imagined. Another nice fairy realm book with beautiful black-and-white artwork.

ok, i know this is weird. but i actuallyread this book someitme this year. i had to finish the series. it was a bit weird to read such a little kid book, but i had to finish the series. oh there is this water sprite, i guess that's what they're called, that looks like my cousin alix. it's so weird.

A charming tale of fairies and their mistrust among themselves over something that they thought happened years ago,but it was discovered was all a mistake/misunderstanding.This happens as well in our world/lives and it proves that we all go through similar trials and hopefully we find happy endings like in this book.

the water sprites were very angry when their moon stone went missing. So when baby Jewel floated down the river she fell into the water sprites hands. When Jessie asked to hold the magic flute and she tapped the end of it and out came the moon stone.

FINALLY! We have been so busy that it took too long to read this book to my daughter. She loves these books. There is always something good to learn from the books in this series.

This one had a bit of an Agatha Christie-esque mystery.
