If you could go back, do it over again, would you take a chance to find true love? What if you had no choice? On her fiftieth birthday, the faerie send Rebecca Miller a thousand years into the past to find her happily ever after with Ciaran MacDermot, Chief of Clann MacDermot, the last Fenian warrior in his line. In the twenty-first century, Becca is old enough to be Ciaran's mother. In the tenth, she's young enough to be his bride. The fae forgot to mention one slight stipulation. The lovers must be bound before the Festival of Light, or Becca will forever disappear into Tir Nan Óg, the faerie Land of the Ever Young. Will they discover the binding words before time runs out and they're torn apart forever? Or will their eternal love defeat their Faerie Fate? Without the words, history is doomed to repeat itself.
Silver James likes walks on the wild side and coffee. Okay. She LOVES coffee. Warning: Her Muse, Iffy, runs with scissors. A cowgirl at heart, she’s also been an Army officer’s wife and mom, and has worked in the legal field, fire service, and law enforcement. Now retired from the real world, she lives in Oklahoma and spends her days writing with the assistance of her two Newfoundland dogs, the cat who rules them all, and the myriad characters living in her imagination. She writes dark paranormal thrillers, time travel romance, and sexy contemporary romance. If you want to know more about Silver or her books, visit her at www.silverjames.com
Awesome as always. Good story line. Good characters. Always love the strong men in all of her books. And the equally or stronger women to balance out the men
I absolutely love stories like this - love withstanding time honoured traditions and trying to find love before it's lost. Not to mention the whole time travel issue where Becca is really a 50 year old now in the body of a twenty year old, eleven centuries earlier.
The detail in which the author describes the characters, their surroundings and their speech is perfect. Not too much detail to bore you, and not too little to keep you looking for more. The references to all of the Celtic words and meanings such as onóir bheith suáilce (honor with virtue) had a lot of meaning for me as my heritage is Scottish and my clans motto translates to Virtue Mine Honor. The clan motto for the MacDermot's clearly shows how the men of the clan fight and protect their own - including the newcomer, Becca. Even though she is not officially Ciaran's partner, the entire clan treat her like a treasured object and would die for her if need be. That to me is a quality in a man that would make any woman swoon.
Becca, is a strong willed, feisty, middle aged woman in the body of a young and beautiful lady. She finds the perfect balance between her knowledge from her previous life and the ease at which she can be young and free again. Ciaran, the gorgeous Fenian warrior, learns to love with his entire being. The two together create an amazingly strong pair who can battle any force. The romance between the two is unbelievably strong and very intoxicating. You will find yourself drawn to the power between them and urging them to figure out their fate before it's too late.
Silver James has done an incredible job of intertwining time travel, faerie lore, romance and action into one amazingly good read. It is an emotional roller coaster of a ride following these lovers through their biggest challenge yet. I look forward to reading the next book in the series Fearie Fire as well as the third which is yet to be released (she is currently working on it). I highly suggest this series for those fae lovers out there.
First, I have to put up the PC disclaimer that author Silver James is a friend of mine. However, that won't keep me from saying things either. I spent my time reading FF in the hospital ICU while my husband was recovering from major surgery. I was able to just sit and read and really enjoy FF. No phones, no other interruptions except for the nurses, and under a stressful situation, being able to read and enjoy is a blessing. Finding a book to hold that attention was even more important than ever.
The story is wonderful and I love the premise. Having hit my 50th b'day this year, it really struck a chord. Watching Becca try and struggle with 21st century knowledge in a time when The Church was trying to change Ireland from it's pagan ways, and men were just being men, was amusing. (Especially the horse breaking scene. I had to laugh quietly so as not to wake the patient.)
There were parts I had to cry quietly so as not to alarm the hospital staff (they have cameras in ICU rooms now).
One thing I don't enjoy in books is an author who goes overboard on descriptions, to the point where I start skimming paragraphs so I can get on with the story. Likewise, when authors don't go into enough detail and I am left trying to fill in the blanks left. Then there are the author's who hit the perfect balance between the two. Silver did this. I could picture the characters, the settings, the moods without being bored. They flowed into the story line itself, seamlessly, without breaking it up. That is a difficult thing to achieve, especially in a debut novel.
The story, without giving anything away that hasn't been already, is exciting, funny, moving and sexy. Extremely sexy, if you get my meaning.
I enjoyed this book so much I might just have to read it again. Many of the historically accurate references gave me a giggle (who knew the word 'tup' actually meant something of a...romantic nature)? The heroine, Becca, wakes up in a bygone era, but she brings her modern day sensibilities with her. That, of course, causes all sorts of amusing havoc. The faerie have sent Becca way back when to do something, but haven't clued her in on what. When she meets hunky Ciaran, it quickly becomes obvious she and the Clann chief have an unusual bond. A through line about soul mates is terribly romantic, and the heat between the two protagonists is well done. Fans of romantic fantasy will love this book, and it will have a great deal of appeal to historical fiction fans too. The ending was very clever and wrapped things up nicely. Well done, Silver James. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this novel, and I suspect her other titles will be equally enjoyable.
