Though I know this is supposed to be a very simple read for kids who are just learning to read, I didn't feel like there was really a story to this book. I felt like she was just taking care of her dog, grandpa popped in, and then she was still taking care of the dog again. Honestly, I didn't enjoy this book very much; however, the illustrations were very lifelike and realistic. That is one thing that I did like about the book.
What a lovely book! This was my favorite book when I was a young girl. I always wanted a dog because of this book. I love the humor of the little girl taking care of the huge dog. Children could easily relate to this book and would chuckle at it as well. This would be a good book for a read-aloud for the primary grades.
The illustrations are beautiful, but they do not model responsible dog care at all. (Grandpa fiddles around the house while leaving the care of Rottweiler Rosie in the hands of a toddler.)
