So You Thought You Couldn't Draw

Rate this book
Despite popular belief, it doesn't take talent to draw. This book will transform even amateurs into artists in just a few easy lessons. Seeing objects as shapes is the first exercise in this simple, four-step process. Every detail is covered -- what paper to use, which end of the pencil to sharpen, which eraser is best, how to use different types of pencils, how to shade, and more. The humorous approach and amusing stories will ease the pain for beginners whose first efforts look like that of a six-year-old. Practice pages with grids are provided to save time and money.

Amazing how quickly you can learn to draw. After just a few lessons, I found myself staring at the paper in disbelief. I couldn't believe I was drawing that well so fast. I like Angelo's sense of humor too. She explains everything so well and makes the lessons really clear. I had the advantage of having her 4 companion DVDs for the course so I was able to watch her demonstrate the drawings in the workbook.

I like that the book has so many different kinds of objects to draw - landscapes, still life, dogs, cats, horses, wild animals, birds and more. I learned so much about shading a wide variety of textures.

I also liked that she broke the lessons into daily thirty minute segments so I could squeeze this into my busy lifestyle. I will definitely buy more books from Sandra Angelo. She makes drawing so easy and she seems to understand that a beginner needs to know absolutely everything. She leaves nothing out.
