4 stars full of suspense and laughs
I want to start my review saying that I didn't expect to enjoy that much this book. It has everything I like and I'm glad I read it.
This is the story of Teresa and Charles, she is doctorate student and he just happens to want to be around her for some reason you'll have to find out. That was the first thing that got my attention and had me guessing through all the book. I never expected him to be what he is and that's something I enjoy while reading, when I get surprised by a character. Teresa is quirky, a little aloof, smart and sad. She just lost her brother in a weird accident and she's trying to get her life together. This is where Charles get into her life. I have to confess I always felt wary about him but I never disliked him and that's something weird to me. I usually have strong feeling for the characters in a book, but I just couldn't love nor hate Charles. I just knew he was hiding something but he actually cared for Teresa and I just hoped when his secret was out I wouldn't end up hating him. I'm not going to say how I feel about him since I don't want to give anything away from the plot, but this book is worth reading.
So, why 4 stars? I think it needs a little more editing in she sense of congruence of the action. I'm picky like that. Charles referred to her as Tess or Teresa but there was no reason behind it. He should've sticked to one, or at least make a notable difference of why using both names. Then, there is a scene that I don't think it would've happened that way for the circumstances, it looks like Teresa forgot she was in pain and was able to do whatever she wanted. That scene could've happened differently taking into consideration her well being. That's me being picky again.
Overall, I enjoyed to book and I'm looking forward to read more about the author. The characters were funny and all of them got together in a nice way at the end. Even in the Epilogue, I wasn't sure if I wanted to punch someone or not and that's great.

Lovers and Lunatics

Teresa has just lost her brother and is trying to recover. All she has to remember him now is a cheap pirate bracelet. While buying towels for her aunts visit, she is kidnapped. When she escapes and catches a ride home, she finds that her home has been ransacked and shot up. When her kidnapper turns rescuer and everyone seems to think her brother sent her "papers" leading to treasure, who can Teresa trust? Charles, the kidnapper? What about the low life thugs that try to kidnap her again? What's "pig face" doing sneaking in her house and threatening her? Trying to figure out what everyone wants, if her brother was actually murdered and who may have killed him is exhausting. A lovely and lively set of characters-from Teresa, Charles, Munolo, Aunt Hatch, Aunt Maize, the Bug Brugaide worker who is always at the right place and time...you are never at want for action and, in some cases laughter. I thoroughly enjoyed Eugenia Riley's humor and wit when writing Lovers and Other Lunatics. I highly recommend Lovers to anyone ready for a great read. Love, adventure, mystery, mayhem, suspense, action and drama all in one exciting story.

I received this book for an honest review... I had a difficult time getting into this book, granted I finished it but it wasnt a normal quck read for me.
Eugenia Riley is a good writer but in this story I felt it was description overload, and the , hmm how do I say this, the significantly large words made it extra hard for me to enjoy it. I understand the main character is well educated but overuse of these words made for an extremely uncomfortable read for me.
Overall the story line was great, aside from the before mentioned issues.

I hate the cover of the book. I really really hate it. But the story is quite entertaining with its mystery and sleuthing stuff. And yes, I'm a sucker for those. So despite the cover, I rate it 4/5 for the very well made story. One can't very well judge a book by it's cover.

Really good book. Turned out much better than I thought it would. I love humor in a story. It makes it interesting and fun to read. It caught my attention right away and kept it. I recommend it. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
