Part poetry, part memoir, TO SET A LIGHT IN EVERY TUNNEL tells the story of Phyllis D. Grilikhes’s life growing up with an emotionally abusive mother, and how she falls in love with poetry and dance. There’s some self-doubt in the steps she takes in her life, but by connecting with positive people, Grilikhes perseveres and perfects her art:

“I too am in this world
and alive in all ways
to the magnificence
of this one born life
each day – each day”

There are plenty of survival stories of abused women
