Is the fox as clever as he thinks he is? Once there was a little fox who thought he was too smart for school. After all, he thought, foxes are clever already. A fox like himself could certainly outwit a chicken . . . or could he?
A clever fox who thinks he doesn't need to go to school, decides to stay home, and have chicken fricassee for lunch. The chickens in the hen house tells him they're all sick, and for him to comeback when they are feeling better. The fox grows weaker, and weaker waiting for the chickens to feel better. He never gets his chicken fricassee, and it was proven that he was not as clever as he thought he was.

Picture Book Soak
This book was about a fox who is hungry for a special chicken dish. He goes to the hen house to get a chicken for dinner but all the chickens are sick, or are they? The fox continues to try and return to the chicken coop but each night they are sick. After a few days the fox begins to think he has gotten sick from the chickens. He finally ends up stealing a sandwich from a hunter and regains his strength. He then determines that he is ready to go back for a chicken, but it is too late, the chickens have already left their chicken coop. Overall I think it was a cute story that younger students would like. The illustrations were fun and gave the book life.
I'm giving it three stars only because I think the illustrations are beautiful. I am still a bit confused by the story, though, even after a second reading. Did the chickens really have colds? Did they trick the fox? Did they just go on vacation as soon as they were better? Maybe I should see if a child can explain this one to me! :)
