Rate this book
MAIS OUI! has been upgraded to an ENHANCED fourth edition. MAIS OUI is now completely integrated with its very own iLrn™: Heinle Learning Center course (sold sparately) which is (an all-in-one online solution for the introductory French course). The MAIS OUI! iLrn™ (sold separately) will provide students with everything they need to master the skills and concepts of introductory French. The dynamic audio- and video-enhanced learning environment includes an audio-enhanced eBook with integrated activities, companion videos, an interactive voiceboard, an online workbook and lab manual with audio, interactive enrichment activities, diagnostic activities that generate a personalized study plan for each student, and access to a variety of online tutorial services. MAIS OUI!'s success was founded on its unique guided approach that engages students in the discovery of the French language and Francophone cultures. Through its proven methodology that entails "thinking" then "observing and inferring" and finally "confirming," the program skillfully encourages students to discover for themselves how the language works. Multiple layers of meaning are uncovered and, as a result, students develop critical-thinking skills that empower them to take control of their own learning. What they acquire in this manner is stored in long-term memory, moving students more rapidly through the material and facilitating faster development of proficiency. In the ENHANCED fourth edition, the integration of iLrn™: Heinle Learning Center enhances this active-learning approach.

I didn't find the audio CDs particularly useful. It is hard to learn a second language without practicing with others, and if you are taking a class the audio CD's are a bit redundant, although they my offer some practice to those who need plenty of repetition.

This is a thorough first-year college-level French textbook. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.

This was my textbook for my college French. I didn't think it was that good, but I supplemented my studies with some other store-bought non-textbook French books that helped a lot.
