Mingo McCloud, Honolulu’s only criminal forensic accountant, has settled into professional and personal bliss on Oahu’s North Shore. His life with his lover, Francois, a security expert with mysterious ties to military and DEA authorities, is on course until Francois accepts an apparently routine case of outfitting a Caribbean billionaire’s luxury holiday home with state of the art security.
When their home is ransacked and Mingo’s car is blown up and a tropical storm heads right toward St. Martin, where Francois was last seen, Mingo becomes frantic when his lover vanishes. He heads to the islands even though travelers are being turned away. Nothing will stop him from finding his missing man. Mingo thought he needed Francois, but realizes, as deadly forces try to stop him, that he, himself, is needed.
A.J. Llewellyn lives in California, but dreams of living in Hawaii. Frequent trips to all the islands, bags of Kona coffee in the fridge and a healthy collection of Hawaiian records keep this writer refueled.
A.J’s passion for the islands led to writing a play about the last ruling monarch of Hawaii, Queen Lili’uokalani as well as a non-erotic novel about the overthrow of her kingdom written in diary form from her maid’s point of view.
A.J. never lacks inspiritation for male/male erotic romances and on the rare occasion this happens, pursues other passions such as collecting books on Hawaiiana, surfing and spending time with friends and animal companions.
A.J. Llewellyn believes that love is a song best sung out loud.
Just like the first volume, there is an air of breathless tension and wildness to this book. I managed to put it down once (barely!) after the second chapter and had intended to read another chapter or two tonight - it was not to be. I had to finish the book.
Mingo, the forensic accountant, and Francois, the PI, continue their love affair and can hardly keep their hands to themselves. The backdrop of Hawaii and all the detailed descriptions of the people and places gives the book an extra layer of the exotic. When Francois goes missing, Mingo is so devastated that he just has to go after him - threatening tornado or not.
I loved the way Mingo's feelings have deepened, how determined he was to go and find Francois and how the both of them relate to each other.
Voto: 3-/5 stelline.
I couldn't wait to jump back into the world of Mingo and his lover, Francois. For one, these guys are hot as hell, and two, the books are well written with just the right amount of humor, mystery, sarcasm, romance, and sex. I was definitely looking forward to this installment because it looked like Mingo might get the chance to rescue Francois instead of the other way around. I think it would be difficult to be in a relationship with someone who is so darn capable of taking care of himself. I wasn't surprised Mingo was feeling a little insecure at the beginning of the story. In case you are wondering, I strongly recommend you read these books in order to keep the information straight.
Mingo and Francois have been together for five months and they're still going strong. That's what's worrying Mingo a little. How can he be an equal partner in this relationship, marriage if Francois gets his way, if Mingo can't stand to be away from Francois for even a few hours? It makes Mingo feel off center, as if he needs Francois more than Francois needs him. Mingo's business is in a bit of a slump as Benny has stopped sending work to him due to their issues in the previous story. So, when Francois sets him up on a lunch meeting with a couple of detectives Mingo knows, Mingo is surprised when they tell him the governor is putting together a task force and they want Mingo to work with them. He'll get a minimum one year contract with a monthly stipend plus expenses and Mingo will work with these two detectives and a DA on all their cases. Mingo is thrilled, to say the least!
Their first case involves a cult that has set up shop and seems to be scamming people out of their money. It also appears the cult has committed murder to protect their secrets. Before they can begin investigating, the cult leader disappears under heavy surveillance. Even worse, though, before Mingo can get Leilani involved and working with him, Benny sneaks in and steals her. Oh, that darn Benny! Leilani is devastated as she didn't know that Mingo wasn't working with Benny when she agreed to it and Mingo is equally upset at not working with his girl. In the midst of this, Francois has to head to St. Martin to install a security system for a very wealthy and, slightly paranoid, man leaving Mingo for five days. Mingo isn't happy.
The next time Mingo speaks to Francois, there's a hurricane headed toward the Caribbean and then Francois disappears with his hotel room being ransacked. Mingo is out of his mind with worry and heads directly to St. Martin to find Francois. Seems there is a lot of misdirection and misinformation and Mingo is not happy to discover that Francois neglected to tell him the whole truth. It doesn't matter, though, because Mingo will find Francois and bring him home and then Mingo can get angry about the half-truths.
Oh, I adored this second installment. I'm only sad because Iill have to wait until November for the next two books in the series to be re-released and that's the only way to get them. I'm not very patient and having to wait for more Mingo and Francois will drive me bananas. These books are great and I'm so loving the ride!

Mingo's a lucky guy, again and again. It seems to be holding as his new relationship manifests in their love shack/fortress by the sea. There's problems in paradise and while waiting to be let off his leash on the new case something surprising and troubling orbits in disrupting the daily routines.
Fast, fun, and sexy. This episode of Mingo madness is a smorgasbord of carnal delights and some sweet, softly whispered nothings. Entertaining and sizzling hot, it does not disappoint in the smexing entertainment department. Not at all in the least bit.
Recommended to readers seeking Oahu places to visit/eat and general lickety goodness.
Favorite quote: He gave me a kiss that stopped the world, that stopped time and the elevator.

A story that moves at breakneck speed, told in quite simple words, with focus on the sex (lots of HOT sex!) and the love story between Mingo and Francois. I also liked secondary cast Leilani and Mele very much. The prose is not very artfully, rather matter of fact, suits the story. This is hard to read as a standalone, though as there are numerous referrals to previous events and many loose ends are left untied.
I'm seriously beginning to wonder whether the season is undermining my emotions or if I have a previously under-utilised talent for selecting books that make me cry. This story is exciting and emotionally involving. I enjoyed learning more about Mingo and Francois, even if I think I would have been a bit more upset with the man for lying to me than Mingo was, and I am off to read the rest of this series. :)
I listened to this book in the audio of the boxed set of the first four books, performed by John Solo. So the following review is really for the set which I can't find on Goodreads.
I love audiobooks performed by John Solo but I’d never read a book by AJ Llewellyn, so when I was able to request a review copy of this audiobook, I jumped on it fast. 😊
This is a collection of 4 short novellas and I enjoyed all of them. Mingo McCloud is a forensic accountant and I’m pretty sure I’ve never read a book where the MC has that occupation. While I’m not sure I ever fully understood what he did as a forensic accountant, I fully enjoyed the mysteries he got involved in. However, I think what this series really is about is Mingo’s various relationships.
His ex keeps popping up and causing trouble; an attorney he works for off and on helps provide interesting cases to solve and Mingo’s forever love is a man of many talents and secrets. There is never a dull moment for Mingo and his associates.
I hope the rest of the series comes to audio because I’d love to listen to more of John Solo’s version of Mingo. I almost forgot to mention the hotness factor. While there are great stories in this collection there is also LOTS and LOTS of HOT sexy time and Mingo and Francois don’t mind the possibility of getting caught loving on each other. 😊
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
This is book # 2 and continues the story of Mingo and Francois. I really liked this follow up to the first book. There were fewer twists and turns in this story. So, Mingo and Francois are together, in love and the relationship is going great. The sex is super hot and the love between these two men is beautifully palpable. Mingo’s offered a job with the city thanks to Francois. Things are looking up for Mingo (Benny stopped their working relationship when he reunited with that dog of an ex-boyfriend Kaolin). Francois gets a contract to install a state of the art security system for an ex-mob informant relocated in the Caribbean. Francois flies out the Caribbean to install the system and visit his sister while he’s there. Francois disappears from his hotel. No, he doesn’t disappear exactly; he leaves his hotel room and doesn’t return. Mingo becomes frantic. You would never guess what happened to cause Francois to lose contact with Mingo and the CIA agents he was supposed to contact. The book ends with romantic Francois and Mingo dialogue. Then the cherry to top of this sundae of a book: a hula pie recipe at the end of the book.
I liked this one, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the Honeybone stories. Mingo and Francois are sweet and hot. Llewellyn does create characters that it's easy for me to enjoy and want to know.
I probably would have given this one a four if the mystery that was introduced at the beginning had been more of the story. It was brought up and then sort of left behind. I also didn't know there was going to be a menage scene. I didn't want that to happen for these two.
This story makes the series soooooo much better because there is the stable relationship and all the dynamics that come from reading about the two of them.
Oh and sex is off the charts hot.
There is a few little editing goofs like dreads turning into braids with beads etc - they make me want to slap AJLs beta readers but I just pushed it aside and loved the story. This series is just pure fun and I adore it.
Less a romance story, more a suspense/thriller. The sex scenes and overall detail give the story great texture and feel. There is a ménage scene just for fantasy sex that may not appeal to all.
