In this Neo-led story, we learn about Hen and her eggs of two sizes; one large and many small ones. She cannot understand where the large egg has come from and asks around, but no one will take ownership, until Fox pipes up. As the chicks begin to hatch, Fox thinks he has a meal ready for him, but Hen has other ideas. With some quick thinking, Hen is able to save her entire family. Neo did so well with this story, getting most of the words on the first try. I am so proud to see him progressing so well in a short time.

Perfect! Will be looking for more books by Molly Coxe. She wrote an interesting suspenseful story with controlled vocabulary. Random House and it’s editor were spot on in publishing this gem for new readers.

Best book ever
This is such a great story. It is an easy read for beginners and has cute artwork. But i love the underlying theme of life and acceptance, regardless of being blood related, or different.

Very simple words for early readers. Hen finds a big egg and asks around the farm if the egg belongs to anyone. Only fox claims the egg but with the intention of eating it. But when the big egg hatches, he saves the eggs from being eaten and is lovingly adopted by Hen.

Cute book about hen attempting to find the rightful owner of the big egg in her nest. She comes across other animals on the farm. And last of all, Fox replies in the affirmative with feasting on his mind. Finally a story of acceptance of someone different.

This is a cute book in which hen finds a very big egg in her nest with her regular eggs and she tries to figure out where it came from. This is a great early reader book with a little suspense to the story to keep kids interested as well as nice illustrations and a message about acceptance.

Cute book. Easy reading
Had to read again and again. Short but nice. Funny. There is a moral to the story if you think about it

Nice level E book. Watch out for the tricky fox, he’s up to no good.

A cute story about family and worth. I can't say enough good things about the I Can Read series. It's the majority of what we read right now and there's an endless catalog to choose from.

Love for all
My daughter loved this book because the big chick was so brave to save all the baby chicks. Even though the big chick was different it was still worthy of love.

Comments on the Story:
This is a story that although it is designed to have simple language for new readers is actually a very good story. It may, however, be kind of scary to some children because the fox takes the eggs away and there is bit of suspense at this part. This might be a good book for boys; they might like the adventure with the fox taking the eggs and running away from the fox. There is a lot of repetition of words and usage of words that children are familiar with such as cat, dog, and hen. Thus, I think that this story is one that would be easy for children to learn to read with because it is exciting and not too challenging.
Recommended Uses for the Book:
I think that this book should be checked out by new readers. I also think that this book could be read at home to small children and if it was read enough they might like to get involved and yell out the part where the big chick is born and lets out a loud squawk. In a story hour, similar to the last book, I think that this story would be better acted out with puppets or some other type of drama. The pictures in this book are not that great but the story is captivating and might be a lot of fun to dramatize.

** spoiler alert **
Rubah. Rubah siap menyantap telur itu. Tapi menetas. Keluarlah anak ayam raksasa wkwk. Induk ayam ngamuk. Induk dan anak raksasa berhasil lolos.

Cute story for early readers about a hen with small eggs and one big egg. Hen asks all the animals if the egg belongs to them and they all respond negatively. This is a great little book for early readers using high frequency words and a real storyline. Text could also be used to discuss how people may look differently, but have different strengths.
