Language Lizard does a wonderful job of publishing worldly stories that all children can relate to. The Three Little Howlers is no exception. Available in a wide variety of languages, this is a retelling of The Three Little Pigs, using 3 howler monkeys and a predatory jaguar. The pictures are bright and colorful, and children will be exposed to lots of new cultural references, such as pepian, kapok, and calabash trees. A short piece of back matter also gives information about the animals referenced in the book.

I recommend for kids PreK-2. Thank you to Language Lizard for providing me with a review copy.

What a fun take on the “Three Little Pigs” story with howler monkeys. A sturdy, strong house is always the best protection from predators! I love the illustrations – they’re so vivid and fun. And all the flowers are especially beautiful.

I love Howler monkeys, they’re so interesting. I first saw them at the Honolulu zoo. While they like the tropical climate, they’re native to Central and South America. I like how the story was a fresh take on a familiar tale, and also had a page teaching about these animals and where they live.
