MY REVIEW:

In a unique blend of Scripture, excerpts of his own commentaries, and probing questions, Wiersbe digs into the Bible book of John in a thought provoking depth you will not soon forget.

Twelve lessons walk you through the book of John in great depth, yet in an a surprisingly simple fashion. Starting with a brief overview, you step into the lesson through the Going Deeper section that alternates questions based on the passage you read in the opening with portions of commentary that will jump start your meditation on the passage. The Looking Inward section guides you to personal application and is followed by the Going Forward section that walks you to putting that application into fleshed out action.

This Bible study takes longer than the average study guide - probably 30 to 60 minutes per lesson when done as an individual. However, this comprehensive study is worth every minute you will spend. I really liked the combination of both challenging depth and simple explanation woven together to make learning intense and enjoyable.

BOOK OVERVIEW:

Developing an intimate relationship with Christ is a life-long process, and the study of His Word is one of the primary avenues through which we learn and draw closer to Him. Dr. Warren Wiersbe’s ability to explore and explain the Bible has been a foundational resource for many during this life-long pursuit, and now his well-loved “Be” commentaries are available in a series of eight-week Bible studies. These small-group studies will enable readers to reach deeply into the riches of God’s Word and gain a clearer understanding of who Christ is and how He taught His followers during His ministry here on earth.

Each eight-week study includes an introduction to the particular book of the Bible, tips for small group study, self-introspective questions, and practical applications. Throughout the study, portions of Dr. Wiersbe’s “Be” commentaries are included to provide greater insight and to encourage those participating in the study to continue to deepen their study of God’s Word. Students of God’s Word may then decide to explore Dr. Wiersbe’s commentaries more completely as they move through individual books of the Bible.

"John: Get to Know the Living Savior" is a Bible study of John that has 12 main lessons. It also has a short introduction and an ending summary lesson. This study can be used with small groups that meet once a week or as a personal Bible study. I really liked how the study remained God- and Scripture-focused throughout and helped me dig deeper into my reading of John. The questions invited thought and discussion, and I felt they were more effective than the questions typically found in Bible studies.

Each lesson started with a reminder to pray and with the reading of the next one or two chapters of John in your own Bible. The Bible study then asked two questions about what stood out to you in the reading. Next were eight questions that help you dig deeper into the themes found in the reading. Each of these questions was proceeded by a paragraph or two of comments or material quoted from the author's Be commentaries on John. Next were three questions reflecting on what was learned and how it mattered to your life today. The final question asked you to pick one idea from the reading to explore further in the coming week. Then you're prompted to say a prayer asking God to guide you in the areas you've noted during the study.

Overall, I was very impressed with this Bible study and would highly recommend it for small groups or as a part of your personal daily reading of the Bible.

I received this book as a review copy through B&B Media Group.

Wiersbe Bible Study Series: John: Get to Know the Living Savior by Warren W. Wiersbe is another thought-provoking Bible study by a top notch author. Over the course of twelve lessons, readers are taken through the entire Gospel of John. Each chapter has excerpts from the Be books Wiersbe has written about John and lots of questions to inspire deeper thought about John. I have a love/hate relationship with these books. I hate the effort each chapter requires, but I love the depth of understanding and knowledge I gain from each one. The questions make me look closer at Jesus' relationship with his disciples, those he healed, and with his Father. This is a series I hope to eventually own in entirety because they are the best I've ever read. By the time you finish, you will never look at the book of John or the Savior it describes the same way again.

used this at a Bible Study, the questions seemed very in depth & I didn't pick up on what they meant in some of the questions. Because i was studying with a group listening to other peoples input was helpful. Definitely not for a beginner.

An excellent Bible Study on the Gospel of John which is based on the Wiersbe commentaries Be Alive (John 1-12) and Be Transformed (John 13-21). This is a Bible study that is good either in a single or group study. I highly recommend it.

This book is an excellent study on the Book of Philippians. It makes an excellent source for anyone who needs to study Philippians in either a single or group setting. I hardly recommend it.

Excellent Study of James

This Bible study of the Epistle of James makes an excellent source for either a group or an individual Bible study of the Epistle of James. I highly encourage you to use this source for your next study.
