A Most Unusual Lady
THERE are none so blind who will not see.
Miss Louisa Stapley defied every description of a lady. But it was mere misfortune which was responsible for many of her misadventures. Having rescued her from her most recent mishap, Lord Alnstrop decided to see to it that she had no more. Grateful as she was, Louisa left Lord Alnstrop's care, over his strenuous objections, to take up a position as governess.
Though Louisa was happy in her new life, she could not help but feel something was missing. Apparently, Lord Alnstrop felt much the same, for his arrival indicated he had not yet finished with his most unusual lady.

This book starts strong with the brief meeting of the H and h, which is the perfect introduction to the characters and their personalities. I don't think the back cover describes the book very well. The h is actually very sensible and does not continue to fall into scrapes. There's an incident that happens due to the H's brother and she's not rescued as much as they make it right by her (that part of the book felt a bit strange though, as if it were part of another story). The H is a great hero but he's not perfect. After the incident, he says some harsh words to the heroine when she catches him off guard and she goes on to become a governess believing that's the end of it. The H, smart man that he is, decides to win her affection (and he does apologize for the way he spoke to her). I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. There are the usual tropes of Regency romance but I thought the H and h were great, the story had some unique elements and I enjoyed the hours I spent reading it.

May 7, 2017I wanted to read it to find out why there's an ant farm on the cover of a regency novel, but I just couldn't get into it.
