1 Sets and Axiomatic Structure 2 Real Number System 3 Relations and Functions 4 Liner Functions 5 Circular Functions 6 Quadratic Functions 7 Counting and Mathematical Induction 8 Composite Functions 9 Polynomial and Exponential Functions 10 Linear systems 11 Probability; Tables; Selected Answers; Index. preface - This book was begun as a revised edition of the author's previously published text Modern Fundamentals of Algebra and Trigonometry (Prentice-Hall, Inc., 1961). The original plan, which involved a number of minor changes, has matured into a significantly different work. As in the earlier work, the aim here is to present a program of study within which technical proficiency develops concurrently with an understanding of basic concepts. Topics have been selected to provide reasonably complete coverage at the pre-calculus level. They have been organized, however, in an effort to emphasize the structure of mathematics, recognition of which is an important step toward "mathematical maturity." . . .
