Friendship, glitter and glamour, cats! I really enjoyed this book!

So far most of my Boekenfestijn books have been second or more in a series, but I apparently was lucky with this one! Yay!

I loved that the book had hilarious moments, but also serious moments. Jess lost her mom not that long ago and she still misses her loads. Then there is the fact she moving away from her grandma's place to be with her dad. And she is also working hard on getting better with her swimming. Alisha (one of the bigg

Million Dollar Mates is the first book I've ever read from Cathy Hopkins, (yes, I know that's pretty bad of me!) and to be honest, I wasn't expecting too much from this. I thought it would be a light read for the weekend. Just glancing at the pink, sparkly front cover suggested a flighty read filled with a load of girly talk and expensive clothes etc.
While it did indeed include this, it was also a lot deeper and meaningful that I had anticipated. Cathy Hopkins surprised me by tackling the loss

From the front cover of this it's easy to presume it's just a little girly book about nothing of importance. To some extents this is true; there are dilemmas about clothes and the usual boy drama. However,Cathy Hopkins sort of makes you get really involved with the boy drama, and deciding who is right. But, other than this, there are issues arisen that you wouldn't expect from the average book aimed at teenage girls. Things such as losing things close to you and dealing with not being liked and ...more

Million Dollar Mates, is a sweet and easy read for all teens/YA fans.
So if you're looking for a quick book to pick up, then I'd definitely go for this one, and even the whole series.
It gives the reader a clear perspective of how life can change, seemingly for the worst, and learning to come to terms with the positives and giving yourself time to move on, that Jess later discovers is for the better.
Genres; romance, narrative,
Suitable for 11+.

Est

Recommended to Libby by: my library :)
Since passing my collection of 'Mates, Dates' books and a few of my copies of 'Truth, Dare, Kiss, Promise' to others, I have read very little Cathy Hopkins. When I picked up this book in the library yesterday, I expected very little from it. I thought it would be a light book for a Saturday evening read.
I was pleasantly surprised by the moral running throughout--money can't buy you happiness. Hopkins writes very well, with a clear perception of how hard it can be to live the life of a teenage gi

Million Dollar Mates may seem like another girly, boy-obsessed, light-hearted book - and some aspects of it is - however Jess' story digs deeper than just (hilariously) embarrassing mix ups and petty school fall outs. It's about a teenage girls struggle to accept the loss of her mother just when she needs her. It's about learning to accept change and solving some of life's most difficult problems. It's about living with grief and letting go. Cathy Hopkins mixes the hilarious mis-haps of a teenag ...more
