This is a good book for toddlers. It is a concept book. It shows that when you go different places you have to wear certain shoes when doing different activities. It will tell kids different things about what they do in life and what type of shoes they have to do.

The rhyme scheme/rhythm doesn't work particularly well for reading aloud. Nancy Cote's illustrations are cute enough and provide enough information that, combined with the short text, older reader/listeners (K-1st grades) can guess what kind of shoes might be referenced. This might actually work best as a beginning reader - the repetitive structure and familiar topic could work as a confidence builder for kids who have mastered the very basics.

This gets points for having a book about shoes that features a BOY--we are spared glitzy "Fancy Nancy" sort of crap--but the rhymes are awkward to the point where I can barely call them rhymes. The art is attractive but not remarkable. The one picture to note is the bathtub page that shows Sherman on his tummy, so his naked BUTT is pretty noticeable. Suppose it was done to show the flippers he's wearing to better advantage, but it's noticeable none the less!

Better for preschoolers than toddlers - the older children in my group were able to guess what kinds of shoes Sherman should wear for each activity, but the younger ones were not as engaged. Perfectly useable for a storytime on socks and shoes, or getting dressed, but not a favorite of mine to read aloud.
Toddlers/Babies. Vocabulary, narrative skills. Simple rhyming story about the different shoes in a child's life. Would be a fun book book for children who are starting to walk and wearing big kid shoes

a cute back and forth book about which shoes a child should wear for each activity. The pictures are perfect for toddlers but the words are more preschool. I wish it gave shoe choices for the kids to choose from.
This would be a good addition to a storytime on shoes. It has simple rhymes that children should be able to guess, and it shows a lot of different types of footwear.

Good interactive read aloud book for small children learning how to dress. Which shoes would you wear if you were playing baseball?

Cute book shows all kinds of different shoes and the appropriate places to wear them (flip-flops on the beach, hiking boots on the trail, etc.)
Readers guess which shoes a boy will wear in different situations.
