Pathology of the Elites: How the Arrogant Classes Plan to Run Your Life

In this bracing collection of provocative essays, the author examines the false benevolence that characterizes the power classes in contemporary America. While they tragically conceive their desire for authority as a form of virtue, the elite classes have set about remaking schools, rewriting the U.S. Constitution, dehumanizing charity, and making war on tradition in the name of a crude form of Social Darwinism.

Knox is among the finest conservative intellectuals writing today. Few combine so rich a knowledge of classical philosophy, orthodox piety, and yet write so fluently about contemporary goings-on. This collection of essays is a great introduction. Knox's takes on Isaiah Berlin and Lionel Trilling are alone worth the price of admission. But his point-by-point demythologizing of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln should be read by everyone (right and left) who think that American history is nothing more than an altar for hero-worship.
