I loved the Childhood of Famous American Series. I borrowed them from the library of St. Patrick's School in Elkhorn Wisconsin in about 1968.

The best book about Jim Thorpe! So many modern books tell the facts of his life, this is a living book! It shared emotions, games, friendship, feelings... I love vintage books for this reason. It's not about learning the timeline of someone's life, it's about learning this story. This is a great addition to my Oklahoma history curriculum.
