Drawing Masterclass

Rate this book
The author of this book argues that we all have the ability to draw and this book teaches how, through technique and observation, we can utilize our innate creativity to reproduce what we see as a drawing. The systems of drawing such as perspective, measuring methods, using line, mark and tone and depicting movement are covered so that the student can work in precise, relaistic and creative styles. A treasury of the finest drawings through history is used to inform as well as inspire and show the reader how to understand and judge a fine drawing. The four elements of drawing - active seeing, the visual field, the language of drawing and recording what is seen are studied separately and in detail. At the end of each section progress is tested by the use of games.

My Grandfather bought me this book. So, it will always have a special place in my heart. What a gorgeous collection of creative exercises, inspiration and joy.

Nice book. Very well worth it just to have on your coffee table to flip through. More ideally, it should be a book that is covered in graphite stains (a few rips) and some coffee soaked in the pages from love and tender use.

For me, getting inspiration is nothing different than LOOKING and this book really teaches you how many artists approach the topic of drawing. Well done Ron Bowen. You are a master for what you have compiled.

Really nice book, with lots of great drawings. A lot to think about in terms of how we construct images, and what typical subjects are, as well as plenty of drawing 'games'
