Duncan's World
Kyle MacDonald keeps his head down and tries to avoid making his father angry while traveling on the professional bull riding circuit. He’s learned the hard way how his father deals with being upset. The only rebellion Kyle’s allowed himself is helping out with the bulls after the event. It’s on one such night that Kyle meets Duncan Hornsby.
Duncan’s the reigning world Champion, and has everything he could want. Yet the shy young man whose father is Duncan’s biggest rival catches his eye. Kyle makes Duncan feel protective and passionate. Let me break this down.
Kyle's dad and brother are the most assholish of all the assholes. They treat Kyle like a slave and the dad regularly beats the crap out of Kyle.
Duncan is the bullriding world champion for the last three years. He kicked Kyle's dad off of the throne and regularly puts the bullriding smackdown on the abusive bastard.
Kyle and Duncan, who's 17 years older than Kyle, hook up one night and get down and dirty. Despite the age difference I immediately wanted them to be together.
Oh, and Kyle? He's flying the V flag. Pure as the driven snow, my friends.
So, about a week after Kyle and Duncan's sex-o-rama Kyle gives his father the father the big Screw You in front of all the cowboys. Who was cheering Kyle on? I was and so was Duncan. Duncan also threw a threat in there and became the protective lover. So sweet.
This was really just a story about how Duncan and Kyle meet, how Kyle learns to stand up for himself, and how the two of them fall in L-O-V-E.
This isn't TA Chase's best but it was still a good little story to spend a couple of hours with.

This is a surprisingly tender story of two cowboys falling in love. The 17-year age difference between the two men is handled well, not brushed aside but not agonized over either. There isn't too much drama, and the relationship is allowed to develop naturally. There's a nice HEA too. I only wish the book were longer so we could get to know the MCs better.

After reading a few books filled with angst this one was actually refreshing. Kyle and Duncan look great together and even though there's an age difference what does it really matter? Nothing in my opinion. What these 2 men find together in this story was precious and Kyle is very adorable and very likable. Duncan is like a knight in shining armor but one that rides a bull rather than a horse. What I had hoped to see was Kyle getting back justice for being mistreated, but what Duncan threw at Kyle's father to shut his trap up pretty quick was damned priceless.
There's a few characters in this book that I'd like to read about and see a story on, but I'll leave that up to T.A. and no pressure. Yet. Hint, hint.

Chase's writing is abrupt and clunky, lacking any grace or flow, which takes the reader out of the story. His dialogue is clunky and awkward. He has some imagination, but his skills portraying his ideas with the written word are sorely lacking.

Decent, but nothing to write home about

PROS:
- I know a lot of people read m/m stories mostly for the sex, but I’m at the point in my life where the sex has to be really good for me to want to even read it all the way through instead of just skimming it. With some stories, that’s difficult because there’s not much plot between long detailed sex scenes. So I appreciated that some of the sex here (not all of it) was fade-to-black. I don’t need a detailed scene every other chapter. I’d rather read about the emotional connection first and then the physical.
- Kyle’s mom is very sweet and accepting. I liked her and the ranch foreman.
- I liked Duncan’s grandfather’s reaction to their relationship, too. Not wholeheartedly open, but realistic about his acceptance.
CONS:
- There were multiple instances in the story when I felt that some plot point wasn’t explored or explained fully. Kyle “doubt[s he’ll] have the courage to make his way to Duncan’s room” and then finds himself there five minutes later; he cowers from his father for years and then has a sudden, violent outburst that seems to come out of the blue; Kyle says he wants to take things slowly, and then literally the next day he’s blurting out the L word.
- The story identifies Duncan as “five years younger than Kyle’s dad, making him seventeen years older than Kyle,” and it states that Kyle is 20 years old. So Duncan is 37, and Kyle’s Dad is 42, yet these two men are supposedly the first- and second-placed bull riders on tour. That simply didn’t fly with me. Bull riding is an incredibly difficult sport physically, and I had a hard time believing that two men in that age range could still be placing so well in the rankings. Just for reference, at the time I’m writing this review, the top 5 riders in the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) circuit are aged 27, 21, 23, 28, and 23.
Overall comments: I liked this well enough, but there were enough inconsistencies and/or points that felt to me like token protests on the part of the characters or like lazy writing on the part of the author that I certainly can’t see myself reading it again.

I wanted to love Duncan’s World. It had two tropes I usually go crazy for, cowboys and May/December romance. Unfortunately, this story fell somewhat flat for me.
I didn’t connect with Kyle or Duncan. I couldn’t understand why Kyle tolerated such terrible treatment from his father and brother, even though he was 20 years old and didn’t have to be there in the first place. Duncan was a little better, but I still wasn’t really feeling it with him. He seemed to really like Kyle and wanted to get to know him better, but he did kiss Kyle and invited him back to his room (to rub some liniment on his back), and he didn’t discourage Kyle when he began clumsily trying to seduce him. They engaged in sexual activity the very night they met, and they never stopped.
There was a lot of sex in Duncan’s World. Normally, I don’t have a problem with that. However, this time I felt some story substance and character development was sacrificed for this. I’d have loved to have more scenes of Duncan and Kyle talking and getting to know each other more. Perhaps I’d have felt more kinship with the men if that had happened.
There are quite a few background characters here. Kyle’s father, brother, and mother, as well as two friends of Duncan’s, Abe and Mason. They each played important roles in the story. The father and brother were decent villains, and Kyle’s mother had an excuse for remaining married to his father. It was kind of convoluted, but it passed the test. Abe and Mason were supportive of Duncan and Kyle’s relationship, and were especially nice to Kyle when he needed friends.

I read the blurb and immediately wanted to get this book. The story of a young cowboy who falls in love with an older successful bull rider was very appealing.
However, as is often the case, the reality of reading the story fell short of my expectations. It was not really bad but rather bland and meaningless. Of course the guys were nice but for me this didn't feel genuine, there was drama where it was unnecessary and it lacked where you definitely would have expected it. I mean a reigning bull rider champion going into a relationship with a 17 years younger boy, not yet 21 and nobody even raising an eyebrow? I really don't think so... I had an okay time reading this, it would have been okay for a kindle unlimited story, that is included in your monthly flatrate but honestly, 6 bucks for a book of 100 pages, that is not a good deal and I definitely think I wasted some money here.

May 1, 2010This is a very nice and comfy novella. There is a bit of drama, but not so much and basically it’s a story of love and good feelings.
Kyle is a virgin boy following his father in the bull riding circuit and at the same time ogling over all the cowboys in tight jeans. He has never had the courage to act on his desires and probably he would have never if not for Duncan. Duncan is a 17 years older than him cowboy who not only is the nemesis of Kyle’s father, he is also the most handsome man Kyle has never seen. All right, maybe Kyle’s judgement is not impartial, being Duncan also his first man, it’s not that Kyle has so much to compare with, but indeed Duncan is good for him.
From first meeting to becoming lovers the step is short, even if not everything is smooth: Kyle’s father and brother will never allow for him to be gay, and even if they would, for sure not being Duncan’s lover. So Kyle has to sneak out to meet with Duncan.
The main issues Duncan and Kyle have to face to be together are the most obvious: being openly gay in a field where it’s really a danger to be, and the age difference between them. Even if the first is highlighted more times, I really didn’t feel as if it was a so big issue; all right, there were dark glares, and maybe some hints to not being so open, but after all trouble arrived only from Kyle’s family, and I don’t think that the gay factor was the main source for it. As for the age difference, true, someone could wonder if it’s a lasting relationship: Kyle has never had the chance to experiment something, or someone, different, Duncan’s is his first lover; but it’s nice to dream that your first love will be also your last, and then, maybe just a little, Kyle is searching in Duncan the fatherly figure that he is so obviously missing.
For all the rest, the story is all good feelings, from the other side of Kyle’s family, his mother, to what little remain of Duncan’s, his grandfather; they are pretty much the example of what one imagines being a big and warm country family, a safe shelter when the lonely cowboy needs to come back home.

Kyle MacDonald is just trying to stay out of his abusive fathers way until this round of the Professional Bull Riding Circuit is over! It’s not easy being your father and brother’s slave/whipping boy, but that is exactly what Kyle has become and it’s getting worse the older he gets. His father hurt his back last year and as a consequence now drinks excessively to dull the pain, he takes his bad mood and foul temper out on Kyle. Kyle’s only outlet is taking care of the circuits’ bulls, he’s the only person the meanest bull there will let near him. One day he meets the owner of the bulls, Duncan Hornsby, the reigning World Champion Bull Rider.
Unbeknownst to both of them, they each have been watching the other since the start of this round! After they meet, Kyles shy, gentle ways bring out the protectiveness in Duncan and he sets about giving Kyle the support he needs to leave his father. On his way home Kyles brother beats him so bad he has to be hospitalised. Duncan takes Kyle home to his mother who decides enough is enough! She starts divorce proceedings as soon as Kyle has his 21st birthday as per her fathers’ will. It’s during this time that they both realise they’ve fallen in love with each other. Whilst Kyle is feeling like the luckiest man on earth, Duncan is feeling like a cradle robber because he’s fallen in love with a man 14 years younger than him!
Duncan’s World is a short story filled with big emotions and an even bigger love. I would definitely recommend this book to all m/m romance readers.

I enjoyed the book and the characters, and thought the situation they were in was interesting, but it ended so quickly. I was left wanting more. When Duncan confront's Kyle's father at the end, I thought it was too short an exchange. I wanted more tension, more drama. It seemed like the father, who was very nasty throughout the book, backed off very quickly. That part was a little disappointing. But I did like the relationship between Kyle and Duncan, and though it moved fast, was sweet. It would be interesting to see what happens to them later on.

Nicely written story about a young man trying to live under his abusive father's thumb and the older man who brings love to his life. I liked the protags and the storyline was interesting. The ending felt a bit abrupt and I would have liked a harsher outcome for the Dad but otherwise I quite enjoyed this one.

This was a not too memorable story. It was entertaining, and the age gap between the characters seemed natural, but the ever present insta-love was there, and that seemed unnatural. Also, the older main character's dialogue and thoughts sometimes didn't befit his age or experience.

My question is why were they apart for so long? Nothing was tying Kyle back home, so why didn't he move in with Duncan sooner? Seemed like a waste of time to me.

Bull riding and romance, what better plot for a book? This book is about Duncan and Kyle. Duncan is a bull rider and Kyle helps his father and brother behind the scenes. The only problem is that Kyle's dad is a major jerk. Honestly, his brother is just as bad.
The book was a quick read with lots of movement to the storyline. Sure, I wish it had been a bit longer because I could have kept reading about these two. I loved that the book dealt with abuse and that Kyle was so strong in standing up for himself. I also loved that the bulls were brought up regularly and had cameos now and then. I raised bulls and loved these appearances.
This was a good book to read. I wish that it was part of a series or gave me something more to go on to. I think I would have kept going with it as long as it lasted. I'll just have to be happy with what I got though.

Kyle is almost twenty-0ne and living on the rodeo circuit with his abusive alcoholic father and his abusive brother. They treat him badly and make him wait on them for everything. Right before he decides he's going to head back home and help his mom on their ranch, Duncan, a cowboy seventeen years his senior starts a relationship with him. The relationship itself only spans about a week or a little more but in that time things come to a head between Kyle and his dad. Things work out for Kyle and Duncan in the end and Kyle's dad gets what he deserves.
It's a nice story. It's pretty simple and can be read fairly quickly at just over a hundred pages. The sex is hot but there's not too much of it either. It's nice if you are wanting a really sweet and simple story with likable characters and an easy plot. My complaints: I don't feel like we got a full explanation of what happened with Kyle's dad and especially of his brother, Rusty. They kind of fade off. Things are overly simple. Not that that's a bad thing, but it doesn't seem realistic. And the story felt really short. I felt like it could have been developed more. I think my complaints were relatively minor though. Overall, it was a well written story.

He is treated like a servant at best and at the worst, like a punching bag during his father’s drunken rages. He gets dreamy eyed over the hot cowboys in tight jeans but does his best to not show any interest for fear of his father and brother’s wrath. In rides Duncan who is the world reigning champion and his father’s greatest nemesis. Duncan, who is 17 years older than Kyle, takes a chance and kisses Kyle and the relationship flourishes from there. This is a case of insta-lust that turns to insta-love without much relationship development. Both Duncan and Kyle are likable characters if not a little bland. Kyle’s father, brother and mother are all despicable to me. The father and brother for obvious reasons but his mother is awful because she allowed this abuse to go on. There is very little backlash for Duncan or Kyle from the other men in the circuit after Kyle’s father outs them. All of the conflict resides within the family. This isn’t a bad story but I feel like for it’s length it got bogged down with sex but still remained an entertaining read.

There is very little backlash for Duncan or Kyle from the other men in the circuit after Kyle’s father outs them. All of the conflict resides within the family. This isn’t a bad story but I feel like for it’s length it got bogged down with sex but still remained an entertaining read.

A nice story with two good main characters that you can't help but like. I like an age gap between characters so the 17 years between Duncan and Kyle appealed to me.
Duncan is a laid back kind of guy who is a champion bull rider - 3 years running. I liked his attitude and how caring he was in general. He was probably more casual about being gay (given his career) and not actually denying it than could be possible in real life. Duncan came across as an affable character, the kind that would be easy to like.
Kyle was a sweet young man, turning 21. He tours the bull riding circuit with his father and brother, both of whom treat him like utter crap. He puts up with it as it's all he's known. Then Duncan comes along and gives him the confidence to leave the family rubbish behind, but not before some nastiness.
I found it hard to reconcile Kyle's mother's lack of consideration for his abuse at the hands of her spouse and other son with the person that talked to Kyle sweetly on the phone. I know there was some explanation of how things were what they were, but still....boo on her.
A pretty good read all around, easy to get through in a sitting.

This was a good book, although not the best of T.A. Chase´s that I read.
Kyle is following his father and brother on the bull riding circuit. Why he does it is a wonder though, as they are both abusive towards Kyle and treat him like a servant. Kyle has admired bull rider Duncan from afar for a while, but now Duncan has noticed Kyle and the attraction between them is instant and sizzling.
The support from Duncan is what Kyle needs to stand up to and break away from his abusive father. I like the relatinship between Duncan and Kyle and even though their relationship is very new they make it work even though there are some issues, such as their age difference and Kyle´s father.
I am having a hard time understanding Kyle´s relationship with his mother, which seems to be pretty close and loving, yet she has let the abuse go on without comment.

After an amazing night with Duncan he stands up to is Dad and prepares to go home to his Mom on the ranch he is attacked and Duncan drives him home to try and get some answers from Kyle’s mother. I do like TA’s cowboys and these are pretty typical. I understood why Kyle’s mother never left her husband (there is a good reason) but she had to know he was beating both her sons and yet she allowed that although it kind of sounds like he didn’t do that until recently. Lots of reference made to the age difference which I think was realistic and while they admitted their strong attraction very quickly it wasn’t insta-love in the usual sense so I didn’t mind. If you like cowboys and the rodeo setting this is a nice read.

(mainly because of the sweet ending without resorting to uberdrama to resolve the issues with Kyle's father)
Nice story. I liked Kyle and Duncan and the relatively non-angsty development of their relationship. Kyle's dad and brother are reprehensible as they are intended to be.
Duncan's World is a nice easy read if that's what you are looking for. I did have a continuity issue that pulled me out of the story regarding Duncan having Kyle's bag when Kyle's brother had taken it.
Also, at one point, Duncan thinks about Kyle being in Texas and how that would affect their blossoming relationship, but later takes Kyle home to New Mexico.
There were a few typo/missing word hits as well.
The continuity issue pulled my rating down to 3.5 stars, but the sweet ending rounded it up to 4 stars for rating/review. :-)

This was a rather fun, quick read with a lovely theme and cowboys what's not to love. Kyle and Duncan have amazing chemistry, I liked how Duncan gave Kyle that extra strength to finally push back and be free. While Kyle was lovely for Duncan, they were just really sweet together I liked the slow development with the long distance and how they took time to build the relationship didn't just jump into it.
Both took time to acknowledge it and their feelings, each for their own reasons Kyle begin still rather young and his first time. Whereas Duncan being much older and fearing Kyle will become bored, so much more out there.
I really liked Tex! Who is the cutest and best bull ever. Just wish had been a bit longer to explore more of the bull riding, the relationship development and family issuess. Overall though this book was an enjoyable cowboy themed romance with an element of recovery too.

This is a book I enjoyed early on in my M/M reading adventure but when I revisited it today, I found it lacking & reduced my rating from ★★★★ to ★★☆ ... my main issues were the unbelievable story line & the clunky writing style ... Duncan & Kyle were deeply in the closet because of fear of reprisals from their fellow cowboys yet there seemed to be a calm acceptance of their relationship by all involved when they were exposed as a couple ... there were also a few unresolved plot lines which irritated me too ... it all just became a bit too fairytale-ish & I found myself disengaging from the book ... add in the dreaded insta-love & you're left with an innocuous little romance without any true depth or satisfaction for the reader.

what i liked: duncan was careful, but not in the closet. he was concerned for their age differences, but realized that kyle had been through enough that it didn't really make a lot of difference.

I waffled between 3 and 4 stars with this one but just decide to go with fours since I did read this straight though with out taking a break. I like age gap stories and this one interesting in the face the Kyle's dad with such an ass and also a contemporary of Duncan. I really don't get why Kyle hung around his dad and brother as long as he did since he obviously had a backbone but it does make the story more interesting. I did like the fact that the author didn't take to obvious opening of killing/hurting Kyle's dad even though the book hinted the drunkenness and bull riding didn't go together, and it would have made more angst for the book.

I like T.A.Chase settings, stories, situations, love blossoming and growing as they're described in h* novels. Very few of h* huge literary production is what I really don't like reading and abandoned. This is one of the novels I liked. Simple but actually true and full of credibility, the only thing is lacking in this novel is a little more angst, the two main characters go through acceptation and living together without much difficulties unless the brother's bashing and failed father's threats. Some other novels contains more pain and struggle to keep love alive and fighting for happiness. But this novel is good though.

Rodeo cowboy meets son of biggest rival. That about sums this book up. An attraction neither one thought would be possible. There is parental and sibling abuse in this book, but it actuall is a very important part of the story. The sex scenes are ok. Mainily a lot of kissing and groping. The story line was good but it really lacked the sexyness of T.A.'s other books.

This story was a hot burning mess from the beginning. I liked the plot but the execution of it was subpar. The dialogue between the characters were that of 12 year old boys which was really surprising after reading Bitter Creek's Redemption. That story was really good! It's like two different authors wrote these stories.

I found many orthographical mistakes, even words missing. Poor editing. Most of all, I didn't really care for Kyle's mother's attitude.
I wish the book was longer, more in depth. I was very intrigued by the premise, but I feel the book didn't exactly deliver.

I loved Kyle's character. Sue me, I have a soft spot for tortured teens. And Duncan was a nice strong character. There were a few mistakes here and there which keeps this from getting a higher rating.
