DESCRIPTION:
When Susan Ingebretson found her health spiraling out of control, she wanted to know why. Her tenacious research into the causes of chronic illness led her through a maze of traditional and nontraditional healing methods. Ingebretson eventually connected the dots and found wellness. "FibroWHYalgia" is a half diary/half tutorial guide that exposes the facts, fibs, and fairytales of failing health and offers practical solutions. Included are detailed descriptions for making nutritional, fitness, and stress-relieving lifestyle changes.
Susan Ingebretson invites anyone with chronic illness to come down from the spectator seats and participate in restored health.
A family member was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia so I wanted to learn more about what she's going through. And honestly? Since it's apparently a possible part of my genetic soup, I wanted to learn more about prevention and early detection.
The author writes in a conversational, approachable way. She shares about her own journey to diagnosis and eventual regaining of health. She concluded that the ten possible triggers for chronic illness are: genetic predisposition, physical injury or trauma, emotional trauma, malnourishment, external toxins, internal toxins, inflammation, infection, hormonal imbalance, and thyroid dysfunction. Her approach to healing and health are actually quite basic, but important: nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction. (The information contained in those chapters really isn't revolutionary, but it covers the basics.)
Overall, a good intro book on the subject. (Note: I read the first 1/2 thoroughly, then skimmed the second 1/2.)
Extremely helpful, easy to ready, and filled with action packed tips! Anyone dealing with any chronic illness, or anyone who has a loved one with a chronic illness will benefit from reading this book. Sue's faith and tenacity brought her back to health, she shares her story with wit, wisdom and compassion. Well researched and grounded in education, Susan is a Holistic Health Counselor, and an Educator with California State University, Fullerton. In addition to being a writer, Sue is also a speaker and workshop presenter.
Great book, even for those who don't have fibromyalgia. It's for anyone wanting to optimize their health (but especially for those with chronic health problems). Her book is entertaining and informative without being too "out there." I've read other health books and they're just not for me. Sue Ingebretson is a normal person that I can relate to. She's healthy without being some psycho health nut. It's one I'll read over and over again because it's a good health reference and a good motivator.
Very informative regarding issues surrounding FM. Although very idealistic, much can be applied to everyday life. You have to apply what is right for you.
The anecdotes can be related to, especially the diagnoses chapter in my case.
Anyone with FM should read this book, at least for the information it imparts.
Incredible resource for those with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue and any other Chronic illness. I began reading hesitantly but ended up writing notes and bookingmarking pages for future reference. Best book on Fibro I've found!
A must read for the newly and not so newly diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It is an easy to read and a great perspective to wellness. This is a book I will refer back to.
