I bought this book because I wanted to find out more about the 'n' that appears as a superscript above the name, Moses, in Judges 18:30. A book on the names, shapes, order and unusual positioning of some Hebrew letters seemed the place to start! Unfortunately, it isn't mentioned. There's heaps of fascinating aspects recorded here about different Hebrew letters (and various strange anomalies in the Scrolls) but that isn't one of them.

There are oversized letters and undersized letters, upside down letters and a broken letter. There's the fact that almost all the columns of a Hebrew scroll (around 245 of them) are carefully designed to start with the letter, vav ('the hook'). Each column is regarded as a curtain, so they need hooks to attach them. There's the page designed to look like a brick wall. The wealth of insights here was astounding.

Like: the Hebrew letter kof means 'holy'. But the Hebrew word kof means 'monkey.' It's all to easy to ape holiness and mimic righteousness, even when our hearts are far from God.

Or like: the Hebrew word for 'Pharaoh' is the word for 'evil' inside the letters for 'mouth'. Pharaoh was therefore a man who spoke evil.

A book I expect to refer to endlessly! (And quote from considerably!)
