Pretty interesting. This author shows reproductions of some of the medieval garments found at Herjolfnes in Greenland. There are drafted out patterns to enlarge and discussion of fibers and weave structures and good photos.

It is a companion book to the book that came out several years ago. There is no new information that I could see just one person's reproduction of the garments. It is not necessary to have this to reproduce the dresses since all the info is in the prior book for anyone to use but it is clearly laid out here and it was interesting to see the thought processes another person went through to produce their own version of the dresses.

After pining for this title for many, many years, I finally got my hands on it! Brilliant work for those interested in historical texiles, especially if one is interested in reproducing historical textiles! Photos of extant garments alongside reproduction photos, scale drawings of pattern pieces, and tables of color/fiber/twist for the yarns in the originals. Very excited to have this reference work in my home library!

Full of technical detail on thread spinning and weaving that - as a non-spinner or weaver - is interesting but doesn't make much sense.

The patterns are really well laid out. I plan to make at least one of the hoods and feel like there's enough information to do it justice.
