Nothing can compete with my Vegan Passport book for helping me get vegan foods only if I’m in a setting where I’m the only English speaker. The Vegan Pasport deals with food only though: vegan vs. not vegan. This handy little book is a good companion. It doesn’t cover anywhere close to the number of languages in the other book, but the other book has only 2 pages of pictures, and this book has many pages. And, it covers all sorts of things besides food. In English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese, there are the beginnings of simple phrases that can be completed at pointing of one of the many pictures. In most cases, pointing to the pictures alone would probably be sufficient for clear communication. I like the pages with the color photographs, and there aren’t enough of them; they are easier to decipher than the simple black and white drawings. There are great color photos of vegan and non-vegan foods, so it’s especially helpful for someone like me.
I’ve never actually needed to use my vegan passport book. I’m mostly at veg*n restaurants locally and if I ever get to travel where another language is spoken, I’d prefer to learn the basics of the language before I get there. However, I’d never leave home without my vegan passport book, and I’d be glad to have this book along as well. I love the idea of it. Oh, I do also have translator programs on my phone so maybe this book isn’t really necessary, but the vegan passport is if I find myself at a restaurant that isn’t 100% vegan.
