Edson Arantes do Nascimento or Pelé was born in 1940 into a poor family and he was born in Três Corações, Brazil. He’s one of the great football Legends of all time. In his early life, Pelé’s dream was to work at an airport; but, he gave up his dream because he saw an air crash. His mother wanted him to become a doctor; however, his father wanted Pelé to be a soccer player because he was a gifted soccer player. Also, he was the best player in his town and he joined Santos, a famous Brazilian team in 1956. Almost a year later, he got involved with the Brazilian national team. In the 1958 World Cup, he scored six goals in all, which led his national team to win the championship. Also, he played in the 1966 and 1970 World Cup championships. In the same year; Pelé met his wife (Rosemeri Cholby) while he watching a girl’s soccer match. In 1974, Pelé moved from Santos to the New York Cosmos and he closed out his legendary career in 1977; in other words, he retired from the game in an exhibition match between the Cosmos and Santos in 1977.
