A commoner attempting to marry into the ton is the heroine of this unique Regency romance. Who among us hasn't dreamt of doing the same?

It's not often that we read about anyone in historical romance novels who is not a Duchess, Marchioness or at the very least, a "Lady". I've often thought that if there really were that many titled folks running around England in the early 1800s they would have all starved or frozen to death - they did virtually nothing for themselves and relied on

Oh, that was good. There was more story, people of integrity, sexual tension without the porn element, a meatier read while being a lusty romance. Ha ha ha! Like this is some great work of literature! I enjoyed it!

Why hello there Jade Lee. Are you my new favourite author? I believe that you certainly are now!

What started out as an impulsive borrow from the library turned out to be incredibly auspicious, because it was more than I had ever bargained for. It addressed 1) the power play and tension between a woman of means with no respectable name, and men who wanted her for different reasons; 2) the power play between man and woman; 3) between honour and pride for both men and women; and 4) betw

This is yet another new to me author and I was once again, pleasantly surprised. This book follows Scher Martin and her dream to be accepted into society as she is but the daughter of an actress. As the owner of the Green Room, a theatre/bar, she is offered to become more than one mans mistress almost daily but Scher longs for the respectability that comes with the wedding ring. Her mother, father, and sister all passed away from sicknesses due to the fact that the doctor helped higher ups in so ...more

Scheherazade Martin, hostess at the Playhouse Tavern and daughter of the most noted actress of the house dreams of a life that includes a husband, children and nice dresses. But with no prospects on the horizon Scher's heart and small amount of respectability are in danger of being lost to Brandon Cates, Viscount Blackthorn. Scher seems doomed to have only those quick trysts in dark corners which Lord Brandon readily offers when he unexpectedly offers her to be his mistress. Even more unexpected ...more

OMG, this one grabbed me by the throat and would NOT let go! Brandon is the ultimate tortured alpha male, extra stress placed on "tortured". We're talking about wanting to end his pain! He desire Schers to be his mistress, but Scher dreams of having a respectable family and home. She's the daughter of an actress and owns, runs and lives in a theatre, and she wishes for the stability she never had. When Brandon's cousin Kit proposes, well...let's just say that doesn't help Brandon's pain any. The ...more

I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The things that Scher had to go through to try and respectable. I loved that Brandon fell in love with her for who she was and nothing more. I hate the fate of Kit though, he seemed so sweet.

Scheherazade Martin,"Sher" for short, is the daughter of an actress and has spent her entire life longing for acceptance, love and respectability. These three things have always been just out of her reach until an unexpected marriage proposal comes her way from a member of the nobility.

Having accepted the proposal Sher places high hopes that she and her fiance will be accepted by his peers and family. Those hopes are dashed and in the ensuing days to come the truth of course is broug

Now I will have to read the next book

Though I liked the characters well enough and there were some wonderfully delicious twists, I found this story to be a bit of a slog. I found the pacing slow for my tastes. The twists and turns kept me reading to the surprise epilogue. Now I will have to read the next book.

The story is set in Regency Era London.
Scher Martin is a busy theater owner, and Kit Frazier is a young suitor
who has recently proposed to Scher.
Concerned about the misalliance,Kit's family sends Brandon, Viscount Blackstone
to break up the couple.
Some of the story line reminded me of the classic: "Jane Eyre."

A Bit Different to the Norm.
An enthralling story which for once in this genre shows the reality of a relationship between those of a different class. I was sorry when the story came to an end. Highly recommended.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from eBookDiscovery. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Scheherazade Martin, or Scher has grown up in The Tavern playhouse. She was born there to an actress mother, and now, lacking acting talent, runs the theater troupe. Although she considers the fellow members as part of her family and she makes a decent living, she yearns for more. Watching those die around her because actors are treated like second class and don’t get proper medical help, she wants a respectable marriage, children, and most of all security, something she has lacked her whole lif ...more

Unique but give it time

I loved how this book was different, not your usual cookie cutter recency romance, but instead about the characters on the fringes of the ton. The climax of the story happens "off screen" meaning not depicted but discussed and it starts in the midst of the plot. This is odd but I actually liked how it avoided a lengthy exposition and had more focus on character than melodrama. The only problem I had was connecting or sympathizing with the characters. It eventually hap

Wicked Surrender by Jade Lee
Historical Romance –Sept 7 2010

Scheherazade Martin longs for respectability and security in life. As an actress and manager of a small tavern troupe, her status is society is akin to a prostitute and definitely far, far below of a respectable lady. Men offer her carte blanches, but not marriage. Scher is resigned to her lot in life and almost becomes the mistress of Brandon Cates, Viscount Blackstone...until his cousin, a young puppyish Kit propose

I don't know where on goodreads I read a review that made this book sound interesting. What I do know is that I am grateful that I decided to read the book. It has to be one of the best romance novels I have ever read.

I stopped halfway thorough it to jot down a few things that struck me when I read them. One thing being how much I loved the fact that Jade Lee respected the ear that she wrote about and did not skirt the social mores of that era. The way she wrote about how actresses w

This is the first Jade Lee book I've read and I admire her skill. Lee crafts her Regency world with care and sticks to the realities of that era. Scher is the daughter of an actress and the proprietress of a tavern playhouse who longs for a respectable marriage and security. When Kit, the genial second son of a lord, proposes his family is not very happy for the couple, to put it mildly. They send his cousin, Brandon, Viscount Blackstone, to seduce Scher and expose her as a social climbing whore ...more

Loved the book!! Scher who is the owner of a playhouse wants marriage, children and respectability. When Kit proposes she accepts, but it's not a sure thing and she knows it. Brandon who is Kits cousin is told to seduce Scher, but when he gets to know her he can't do it. Scher is criticized, ridicule, and so much more not only by Kits family, but the ton. How could a bastard and upstart think she can just marry into the ton. Brandon is angry at his family for what their trying to do.

Cheap and Lazy
If you take issue with dubious consent in fictional romance, you’ll want to pass this up, as Brandon is exceptionally relentless in his attempts at seducing Sher. Then there’s the cheating. I’m not a fan of love triangles and almost passed up this book on that premise, but I’d read the excerpt and really wanted to give this new-to-me author a try. I was surprised to find that her deft hand allowed me to root for both Brandon and Sher—without making me disrespect Kit. Impressive. This is not one ...more

I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review. This book highlights the divide between the aristocracy and the "others" in Regency England. Sher, daughter of an actress, wishes only to be respectable. She is the manager of a play house and in the course of events meets two cousins who are poles apart in temperament and life experience, Kit and Brandon. They are both younger sons of landed gentry. Kit asks Sher to marry him and she accepts, never dreaming of ...more

Loved it!

Normally I like to read books in order but I had read Kit's story first and I thoroughly enjoyed it and had no difficulty following the story even though I had not read Brandon and Scher's. However, I had to find out how Scher and Brandon had come together so I immediately bought Her Wicked Surrender as soon as I finished Kit's story and I must say that I found this story equally enjoyable. Scher has a dream to marry so when Kit proposed she accepted even though she was attracted

I love Jade Lee's work. Her writing flows effortlessly and I tend to get lost in her stories. I certainly lost myself in this one.

Scher Martin is the daughter of an actress who runs a theater. She longs for a church wedding, a country home, and children, but decent men don't marry women from the theater. Discouraged, she almost agrees to become mistress to Brandon Cates, Viscount Blackstone. That is, until his cousin Kit proposes marriage to her.

The heroine runs a theater, but her real goal is marriage. She wants it desperately, because marriage provides security and protection, not just in terms of financial support, but when one has a bad reputation, even the doctors won't come to take care of you or your family. The hero is a relative of the man the heroine intends to marry. He's been sent by his family to pry her away from her fiance one way or another. He can't buy her off, so he tries to seduce her away, but she won't. The hero is ...more

Ball gowns and rakish lords caught her attention early (thank you Georgette Heyer), and her fascination with the Regency began.
