The value of this particular book is very narrow, and I read more like a testimonial of revenge and redemption. Yanoff describes in intricate detail his campaign to find his grandson; gazillions of conversations and letters and confrontations are recounted. Joey's homecoming takes place over 2 pages, and the epilogue was sadly unsatisfying. The focus seemed to be less on Joey's well-being than on Yanoff's mission of getting him out. The whole situation was completely effed, for sure: messed up family dynamics, early 80s ISKCON bureaucratic idiocy.
For me, the value of this book was in remembering just how intricately HK make their arguments--their phraseology, their intensity, their black & white attractiveness.
It does not surprise me that there are only 2 other ratings of this book here on Goodreads and that OPAC only had one copy across 85 Chicago area libraries.
