The Voting Booth After Dark: Despicable, Embarrassing, Repulsive is a collection of short stories and poems interwoven into a narrative that follows a group of addicted gay & lesbian Latino club kids destroying themselves throughout the course of the 2008 elections. The book focuses on how they affect and are affected by the national politics happening around them.
Vanessa Libertad Garcia was a young Cuban-American, lesbian writer and filmmaker from Los Angeles. She strived to create books & films about uncommon lives for the collectıve heart.
The Voting Booth After Dark is as the title suggests... raw, dark poetry, difficult to read in one sitting. I had to put it down and let it go for some time as it requires a strong mental and emotional state to appreciate and empathize with the poet, and not just chuck it to the "this is NOT poetry" pile.
