I'm so annoyed -- I wrote a long (and brilliant, of course!) review and Goodreads apparently ate it *scowls*

So let's try this again!

So I saw this new release on Amazon yesterday and snagged it for my Kindle based on the synopsis. It wasn't until I was a couple chapters into it that I realized that it was the newest novel in a series that I started but never finished! Doh!

However, it turned out fine, because while there wasn't a big info dump at the beginning like some authors *cough*Jayne Castle

Yum! I love me some Lori Handeland books! And altho MBTM is quite different from previous Nightcreature novels, Lori's captivating style of writing kept me up all night reading (again). Today, as I read another PNR book, I kept flashing back to elements of Marked, which influenced my other reading. And I wished that she would do a spin-off from the Nightcreature village with its new Alpha(s), because I'm not ready to let the characters go yet!

Alexandra Trevalyn (I love her name!) use to be a Jag

Marked by the Moon is the 9th book in the series "Nightcreatures". Lori Handeland has been one of my favorite authors for several years now.

She provides the reader with likeable characters and strong backstories. There is always some humor and she doesn't fill the pages with too much eroticism, which (IMO) can take away from a good story.

In this book, our hero Julian has lost his beloved wife to a no-nonsense werewolf hunter named Alexandra. Julian has the chance to kill Alex but instead decides

It was very different than the other books. When my sister first read it I was a little wary of what she told me, maybe I wouldn't like it. So, I put it off until last night and I have to admit I loved it! It has to be my favorite in the series so far. Alex and Julian fight and are constantly at each others throats but neither can deny the passion between then and the ever growing bond. It was a great book kept me guessing the whole way though and I never saw the ending coming!!! Can't wait to r ...more

I love the Nightcreature's series, it's been too long between books! This is another great addition to the series, the writing has changed a bit from the previous books (from first person POV to both), but I can see in this story why she did it. The characters and story were excellent, I highly recommend reading this series if you haven't already!

I absolutely LOVED reading this. Alex and Julian weren't only awesome characters they were hilarious to read. They kept me guessing throughout the whole book what they would do next. I did guess a few things before they came but they were still good to read when they were revealed. All in all I loved it.

Alex has been a werewolf hunter since she was a child. When Julian shows up and makes her the monster she hates the only thing she can think of is finding a silver bullet before she changes. Edward has other plans for her though. Will she be able to accomplish her mission or will Julian or his wolves end her for killing one of their own? Will Alex and Julian be able to put aside their animosity to protect her secrets and a nearby village from a crazed wolf on a killing spree? I really enjoyed th ...more

I’ve been reading the series in order. Occasionally, I read the novellas too. This one was by far (this far) my favorite. The beginning was shaky and my interest didn’t start off strong but once the story got its sea legs (or wolf legs?), I was intrigued and committed to the story. The leads had good chemistry even when they didn’t like each other. There were no irritating “hair feathers” like in previous books. I will probably re-read this one again which is something I rarely do.
Paranormal Romance
Since the death of her mother and the murder of her father, the heroine has dedicated her life to just one thing- hunting werewolves. She's even abandoned the jager-suchers because she refuses to believe in a cure, that once infected, that animal has to die. She's on the hunt for such a beast when an entirely new sort of creature comes across her path. The hero is what she hates and if given the chance, she'd gladly put a bullet to him. Too bad, he's managed to tie her up. He informs her that be ...more
i really really enjoyed this book!! I really loved that this story showed the world of werewolves, rather than the world of the hunters as the rest of the Nightcreatures series mostly dwelled on.

Alexandra is a werewolf hunter, who used to work for the Jager- Suchers, but decides to go "rogue" and hunt werewolves on her own without the help of this elite government regulated group. Years ago, her father was killed by a werewolf, and ever since she's wanted to see each and everyone of them good a

There was a long wait of nearly three years between this book and the previous release in the series. After the wait, it took me a while to pick this one up. I had vague memories of what the previous books were about and didn't feel heavily invested in the series anymore. The good news is Marked by the Moon doesn't rely heavily on previous characters and the world building is well covered to allow this to be a stand-alone. The bad news, the pull of the moon was weak, leaving me less than

In Lori Handeland's "Marked by the Moon," the latest release in the "Nightcreature Novel" series, Handeland begins with a systematic execution of an unquestionably evil werewolf by rogue hunter Alexandra Trevalyn. Her weapon of choice is a gun loaded with silver bullets. After a crude exchange, Alex shoots, and a blaze erupts as the bullets pierce the skin (a common side effect when silver meets wolf).

When Alex finishes her assignment, she is confro

I really like this story. It’s simple and way different from the previous books, but fits in nicely.

I was getting tired of Edward and his manipulations. He does try to manipulate Alex, but things get away from him and the main story is completely out of this hands. I’m so proud of Alex. She and Julian are perfect and finally get their HEA.

I enjoyed how the person who’s trying to get revenge ends up having to save and train the person he wanted revenge on. Interesting how we finally get the ‘

This is the first boook I have read by Lori Handeland and found it different and page moving. The main characters are Alexandra Trevalyn and Julian Barlow and the electricity between them is very emotional. Alex is trying to klill werewolves and find the killer of her father. She, as her father, belongs to the Jager-Sucher, whose main purpose is to kill the werewolves. Juilan Barlow is the alpha or leader of werewolves who live in Alaska. He makes werewolves, who accept the change, and they are ...more

Alex is a werewolf hunter, trained by her Jäger-Sucher father after her mother was killed by a werewolf. She's hunted on her own after her father is also killed by a werewolf. Julian is the head of a group of werewolves he's created, but unlike most other werewolves, his group doesn't believe in killing.

Julian has hunted Alex since she killed his gentle wife and turns her when finding her. He plans on leaving her alone to suffer while learning `the other side' but finds he can't leave her behind

Other than Moon Cursed (which while it is a Nightcreature book, it isn't a werewolf tale) I think this is my favorite in the Nightcreature series at least until Crave the Moon comes out (well see if this stays my fav). Spoiler alert!! Who knew there could be a whole village of werewolves who are good unlike their demon-ridden brethen that Edward is always after (other than Elise and the wolves she's cured). This tale just goes to show you that while revengence may best be served cold, watch out ...more

If a killer was out there, stalking both of you...would you allow the things that divide you to separate you even more or would you bond together and fight for survival? This book ...more

Alexandra Trevalyn is strong and sharp and does what most people can't: She kills werewolves. Once upon a time, she was part of an elite band of hunters, but she's rogue now, but still just as determined to rid the world of the bloodthirsty monsters. Alex had no choice but to kill Julian Barlow's wife and now she must pay for that decision. Julian is downright vicious in his plan, and turns Alex into a member of his own pack. It's just a matter of time before Alex falls under Julian's spell. Now ...more

I usually prefer fantasy books to not be stand alones because I think good fantasy takes time. World building is important when it comes to making it realistic. However, even though the world building was rushed in this, because they jumped right in everything was clear and to the point. The relationship between Alex and Barlow was extremely complicated but their gradual transition from enemies to frenemies to lovers was so well written that I was more focused on them then on the logistics of ho ...more

It has been ages since I have read a Night-creatures novel, so long in fact that I had forgotten how much I loved them. WOW! Once again the Jager-Suchers are on the look out for Werewolves, this time sending rogue hunter Alexandra Trevalyn. I love reading books where people hate each other, are even enemies. That from the start all they do is argue with each other, but it doesn't stop them from having some explosive sex wondering what the hell they are doing. Then as time goes on the bad guy doesn't seem to be so bad, and the good guy sees the world isn't black and white, and eventually they realize that they love each other. This book has that in spades. It allows us a different take on the wolves that in habit this world.

Loved this, another well-done werewolf romance from Lori Handeland. Glad that after an agonizing wait to see if this series would continue or not, that it picked right back up at awesome. A slight few things hold it back from being off the charts, but it seems few paranormal romances can forgo the cliches of the genre anymore. Other than that, this was sexy, fun, funny and a terrific weekend read. Buying the next Handeland ASAP! Thank goodness she was able to get back to this series!

This novel offers very interesting views on werewolves. In short, werewolf hunter (Alexandra Trevalyn) goes rogue, kills a werewolf she was tracking in Los Angeles. Subsequently, Alexandra is captured by werewolf lord whose wife she killed, and while bound, is bitten by said werewolf lord (Julian) and made into a werewolf. More twists and turns follow. Hold on tight and don't let go.

As usual, Handeland gives us a spunky, mouthy heroine (Alex) who's a real pain to the hero but fun to read. In Marked by the Moon the hero (Julian) is a strong character with powers unique to the Nightcreature novels.
This is Handeland's first Nightcreature book in which she uses the hero's POV as well as the heroine's, and I really enjoyed getting Julian's perspective. Thank you, Lori!

Lori Handeland is a dependable writer - her books are always entertaining. If you like romance mixed with the paranormal, in this case werewolves, you'll love this book. The characters are well developed and interesting, the book moves along quickly. It's filled with eerie atmospheres and keeps you wondering about how it's all going to play out until the end. A great read.

This was a great book. I liked it very much. There was humor, suspense/mystery, self-discovery, and emotions that came across well. It had some new point of views and blood hopping (I couldn't get that out of my head for some reason, it's either really weird or really funny). This was my first book of the series and I will definitely read the rest of the series. Enjoy Very Much

Alex hunts werewolves (that part is pretty cool).

She kills Julian's wife (both werewolves). He wants revenge, so he turns her into a werewolf.

She is brought to Alaska where is people live in peace. But there is a traitor that is killing humans.

The book is very good up until the end. The final chapter kills the book. I was so disappointed.
