A new experience, reading a book with no prior goodreads reviews. I also note I am the only reader to have left a positive rating.

A simple read, a collection of short remembered anecdotes, of a humourous intent. Mostly revolving around alcohol. From a bad lad from a disadvantaged background straightened out by the ultimate team game, rugby union.

My heart did sink, as it started with a few lame attempts at jokes, but as one got used to the voice of the raconteur, in the end the laughs came. Stories of rugby tours to tough regions of Canada, and drunken humiliations in French bistros, it was enjoyable for sure. And one did get an insight into the realities of life under the enforced amateur rules.

Laugh out loud funny. A brilliant read from start to finish. Highly enjoyable. Thanks to KJ for the recommendation.
