Love can rescue a lonely heart. Kyle Morgan doesn't want to be rescued, especially not by former beauty queen Sabrina Daniels. Sabrina fires up Kyle's long dormant libido, and it's like a match struck on dry tinder-an explosion of heat whenever she's around. His cheating ex-wife left a bad taste in his mouth about the entire female gender and he doesn't want to get involved again, despite Sabrina's untapped sensuality. Sabrina Daniels, newly divorced from her controlling millionaire husband, is out to build her independence and begin a new life. She's always wanted to be a ranch owner but knows nothing about ranching. Her solution comes in the form of The Rocking M in Dreamwater, Oklahoma. The ranch needs an investor, and she has the money. But if she wants her dreams to come true, Sabrina will have to work alongside handsome-as-sin Kyle Morgan. Yes, he's surly and unpleasant, but underneath his tough exterior, she discovers a man who feels like a failure. Both have firm goals for their future, but love has a way of interfering in the best laid plans.

Rescue Me was...something. lol

The Gist: One family owned ranch in desperate need of a funding boost and one city girl starting over in life and desperate to learn about ranching so she can fulfill her lifelong dream of buying a ranch of her own and investing short term in a ranch in exchange for them teaching her how everything works. Match made in heaven. Maybe.

Sabrina and Kyle. Sabrina was wonderful. This girl has gone through hell with her mother and her ex-husband who have micromanaged and basically abused her her whole life. She's never gotten to do anything for herself. Make any decisions. Anything. But she's free now and taking her life in her own hands. She has a ton of strength in herself even if she wavers sometimes. I loved that she was going after what her heart wanted and was learning to live. She did one thing I didn't care for towards the end but other than that I loved watching her flourish.

Kyle. Now he's one surly asshole of a cowboy. lol He's been hurt by an ex and he has a lot of self doubt in his abilities to provide and keep the family ranch running. And it makes him an absolute prick now and again as he lashes out at those around him. He had some good moments, too, but lordy he was a handful.

Their romance was mercurial. Sometimes very sweet. Sometimes fiery. It seemed to work for them though they'd definitely be one of those couples that make people talk because whew boy they go at it and are mean then makeup.

Overall, I liked the set up quite a bit. First time I've seen that. I liked the heroine quite a bit, too. The hero was okay. Not my type exactly. I did enjoy his family as well and wish they each had their stories told. Maybe they did but I haven't been able to track them down. So an enjoyable overall read even if not an absolute favorite from Burton. Still a good time killer.

To begin with I will always give a separate rating on my romances for their level of steaminess...that way if this is something that makes or breaks your potential to read a book you are not wasting your time.
💖very mild. Either no sex at all or just eluded to.
💖💖 sex scenes are described in this book
💖💖💖little left to the imagination. The author is really painting you a picture
💖💖💖💖 wowzers! this could be the amount of sex, detail, dirty talk, etc.
I gave this book 2 stars and 💖💖.
Im really shocked about my own rating. lol. I usually love Jaci Burton books!! Her play-by-play series is amazing, and the Hope series is great as well. She is awesome at writing a sexy male lead, but she missed the mark on this one.
Kyle because of divorce needs capital to keep his family ranch running. He is not a very likeable love interest. I know...again...hot cowboy...and I dont like him...its shocking, but hes kind of an ***. I also didn't relate in any way to Sabrina. She talked about her ex husband being evil, but it felt like she was repeating the cycle with Kyle.
This book just didn't rescue me.

3 1/2 star read. A prideful Kyle is trying to save his family ranch left to him, his brother and sister after their parents are killed in a auto accident. Sabrina, an heiress, wants to buy a ranch of her own and offers to pay Kyle and his family to teach her the ropes of ranching. Kyle resents Sabrina interference, but agrees to her help.

A typical sexy, naive, and innocent girl meets a strong and proud rancher, he treats her poorly because he wants her and she falls quickly for him. If you like this kind of story, I DO, then you will like this book. There is lots of sexual tension and good chemistry between Kyle and Sabrina and even a scene that got me a little choked up.

This book was very quick to read. The storyline was very simple, and I didn't feel that it or the character development went very deep. That didn't bother me, but it was difficult to find the hero likeable. He was just bad natured in general, prone to losing his temper and yelling, and that isn't my favorite type of hero. I enjoyed reading the book, but after finishing it didn't feel that it was really anything special.

Sabrina Daniels has a dream of owning a ranch, but she needs to learn how to be a rancher. She makes a deal to invest money into The Rocking M ranch, owned by the three Morgan siblings, and in return they will educate her about ranching. The ranch is in financial trouble due to the large divorce settlement that Kyle Morgan was required to give his ex-wife. Siblings Brady and Jenna are easy to get along with and glad to have Sabrina, but Kyle is resentful and doesn't want her there. Kyle is unable to deny the attraction that he feels for Sabrina, but even after he and Sabrina become involved, he is unwilling to admit to her that their relationship is anything more than physical. In order for Kyle and Sabrina to have a chance at happiness, he will have to learn to swallow his massive pride.

As I finished this book, I wasn't really convinced that the hero and heroine had a great relationship in store for the future. Even at the end of the book, the hero was cautioning the heroine about how difficult he would be to live with and about how she would have to be prepared to deal with his anger and yelling. This just isn't the way I want to view the hero at the end of the story. I can deal with a strong somewhat surly alpha hero if he has redeeming qualities, but the author didn't give me enough to like about Kyle Morgan. This book was pretty tame for an erotica novel.

This just didn't work for me on so many levels. There were a number of choices that just don't ring true for me as someone who grew up on a horse ranch. For instance, there's not a rancher I know that doesn't name their horses, every cowboy on the rodeo circuit's horse has a name, hell the bucking broncs they're riding have names! Sure you're not naming all the individual cattle or other animals meant for slaughter (though put kids on a farm and even some of those get names, lord knows my sisters and I named all of our pigs/sheep and other livestock), but your horse is your partner on a cattle ranch.

Add onto that how much of a complete egotistical ass Kyle is I'm out. I couldn't understand what Sabrina saw in the asshole. Everytime you'd think ok, maybe he's finally softening a little bit and boom his pride would rear it's ugly head and he'd go on a rager that was completely out of bounds. And the author's attempt at the end for the reconciliation of these two and a HEA just does not ring true when it's basically, well I'm not going to change you'll just have to accept that I'm gonna be an ass and take it out on you periodically, so forgive me each time ok? Yuck.

OK so where do I start? I almost DNF but believe it or not I kept on because I hoped that it would get better but it didn't. The hero (Kyle the sexy rancher), OMG is horrible and I'm still shaking my head.
Now bear with me as I figure this out......okay?

No matter what, I couldn't get past the fact that the hero is still a verbally abusive, hot headed, douche-canoe. Just because he's sexy doesn't forgive the fact that he's willing to kick the girl to the curb because his pride is hurt and if you think about it, basically the heroine is in an abusive cycle (even if she doesn't realize it, she moves from one abusive relationship to another to another).

Nope not my type of romance.

Only took me 17% to determine I couldn't handle it. Boring and the female was so freaking annoying. Heifer wants to own her own ranch so she invests in one but arrives and acts like a child and doesn't even know how to ride a horse. So..... maybe just go to a dude ranch beforehand?? Literally has no clue about ANYTHING ranch like. I mean she's dumb. Then she's all, I've studied horses my whole life but she doesn't know what a quarter horse is. That audio also sucks balls and makes you hate her more. Plus the narrator pauses between EVERYTHING so it doesn't flow smoothly. It's just all start and stop.

This may be 2.5 stars for silly things like building a mental picture of laying the newborn on the mother’s chest then neglecting to talk about the umbilical cord that was still mentally in the picture, or no concerns that the baby came at least a month early based on the timeframe of happenings spelled out. Clearly this story was written as a fantasy.

Kyle Morgan is a rancher who is losing his ranch. Sabrina is a rich, pampered rancher wannabe who recently left a verbally abusive husband. There were parts that I really liked but there many times when I shook my head at the verbal sparring, deceit, and stupid choices.

Thank goodness this wasn't the 1st book I read of this author... if so, I won't be on book 4 of the "Play by Play" series. This book only gets a 2 star because of the how they dealt with the ex issue...and the heroine character. I enjoyed her for the most part.

I really enjoyed this book—good characters, a story you enjoy becoming part of, good sex, a happy ending.
MacKenzie Cartwright does good work narrating.
Two small dislikes—the phrase ‘pussy lips’ and as a farm girl, I don’t know of ANYONE who doesn’t name their animals.

This is the second Jaci Burton audio book I have listened to recently. I enjoyed the storyline, and the determination of a browbeaten beauty to reclaim her life after marriage to an asshat. Good for her, she had a miserable childhood, obeying her mother and being sheltered in someways and exposed in others. She marries a controlling man whose only saving grace was that he let her go to college. But he was a nasty, hateful man. When you hear how nasty and evil he was you will think she should have gotten all his money and not just the large settlement she did get.

She has had the dream of owning a ranch although she has no experience with them. She had never even been up close to a horse. She has the money to do it so she finds a ranch that needs investors and she’ll invest short term if they will teach her how to be a rancher.

Here’s the problem, after their initial meeting and first evening in the family meal where he is an asshat, he calms down and long as Sabrina does everything Kyle thinks is okay and nothing he doesn’t he’s pleasant moving on to hot to trot. But this is a man with a temper, quick to anger, chips all over his shoulders, huge ego, idiotic machismo. Sabrina is amazed she doesn’t feel physically threatened by him when he is angry.

I really enjoyed Sabrina changing from this sheltered girl whose husband just wanted her to stay still during sex, to a sexually fulfilled woman. And, speaking of heat, while it takes a while to get to skin on skin, the heat starts right away.

I have a problem with her being with him, he is not physically violent but he is an emotional jackass and I think a bully. I would not have her end up with a man with his issues until he got some help or took something. I have known of too many women where the guy ‘gets all nice’ temporarily, until something sets him off and he becomes a jerk again. Love will not change him like that. It may help him decide to get help but he needs anger management classes.

On the other hand, it is an idyllic ranch; she names all the horses, and feels bad for the calves being castrated. She is resolute in her wish to make her dream a reality. When they get together it is hot. I would just say that for a woman who had been treated poorly this is more of the same and I just didn’t see them being together as a good idea or realistic. The family is sweet, I loved the feel of the sibling arguments and then affection. If she had gone after the younger brother I would have felt better about it because he is easy going. But for an emotionally abused woman this felt like more of the same. Some of the ranch events seem a little too much, their execution is naive. I’ve planned a lot of events and nothing as complex as this and it’s just written as happening too easily.

The narration was great. Easily understood, a pleasant timbre, good voices. It may have been the voicing of Kyle’s part of dialogue that made me feel he had problems and that I wouldn’t wish him on any woman. There may be a lot more to talk about, but this is what really stuck out to me.

What do you think, is missing a woman going to change a man from a hot head to a nicer man?

I don't typically write reviews but this book had to be one of the most disappointing books I have read recently. Kyle is a jerk and Sabrina is an idiot for putting up with him. There was no romance to this book. For me it was a total disappointment I just wanted to yell at both the main characters the entire book.

Jenna-Kyle's sister
Brady-Kyle's brother
Luke-Jenna's husband
Dent&Amanda-enemy of Kyle and Kyle's ex wife who cheated on Kyle with Dent and later on married him.

Sabrina is the investigator that signed a contract with Kyle to stay at the ranch for three months and learn how to be a rancher. Just through with a divorce that emptied his pockets and putted a debt on the farm, Kyle has to agree with Sabrina for her to stay at the ranch because Kyle needs Sabrina's money. Kyle can't help but feel attracted to Sabrina since day one, and Sabrina the same to him. Kyle doesn't want to be too nice around Sabrina so he starts to treat her badly. But feels guilt afterwards.
Dent makes threats to kyle and his family that he plans to get more money than kyle and buy kyle's property away from him and make it as his own since he's soooo rich.Asshole.

Later on Jenna has her baby, and Luke arrives right afterwards to see his baby.
In the end Sabrina comes back to kyle and they make up and bibobopitydo, sabrina tells him shes pregnant, he tells her some things that makes her love him more...yup, all the same for these romance books.

pretty straight forward romance. Sabrina comes to the Rocking M ranch to invest some cash in exchange for learning how to operate her own ranch. one of the owners of the ranch Kyle had a bad go with an ex wife and decides it is pretty much every woman's fault. he relentlessly rips into Sabrina even though they both want to just tumble into bed. they do just that. they snipe some more. everyone loves Sabrina and yells at Kyle no matter what happens. they fight some more. tantrums are thrown. she leaves. he chases her down. HEA.

aka - not a book for me. i need something in the middle of my mush. sizzling sex scenes or some espionage at least.

this book had "Twilightesque" fade to black sex scenes. that was enough to make me sad. then we have the main female character, Sabrina. i think we were suppose to be all sympathetic towards her whenever Kyle got furious at her. oh he sniped plenty uncalled for. the major argument near the end of the book pretty much made me see red. she wouldn't have had to worry about packing in order to leave. i would have tossed her out on her behind. in the end between his family berating him and self flagellation he saw the error of his ways. i don't really get it, because i would have still been breathing big puffs of steam while my eyes glowed red. this chick had some audacity. we also have our lovely Sabrina taking off planning to live her merry life along with Kyle's baby. you know, why bother telling him about it? its her choice after all. nice.

all around i did not like her one bit. sure i wanted to smack Kyle a few times too, but she acted like a 4 year old more than not. between the two of them they will make stellar parents. they can tag team snipe at the kid.

they both need to be grounded and have their TV taken away for a month.

They say never judge a book by its cover. But I definitely do. Jaci had the cover to this book redone (not the cover shown on Goodreads), which is why I decided to read it. Glad I did!

Kyle seriously the most stubborn and most prideful man I've ever witnessed. Sheesh. He pissed me off more than once with his attitude and behavior towards Sabrina. I kept waiting for the turn in the book where he actually allowed hisself to feel and act in regards to his heart, NOPE! He always allowed his head, pride and mouth stop him and make Sabrina second guess herself and her feelings for him. Damn man! If it wasn't for his sister, Jenna, constantly on his case...this book-their story would have ended so damn sadly!!

Finally swallowing his pride, he put it all on the line. In an ad!! So damn cute...I loved it! He may not have wanted to be rescued, in any way, but he sure as hell needed it. The fact that Sabrina's past prepared her for the type of man Kyle was - shows that everything happens for a reason. She was a better woman because of her asshole of an ex-husband and she was able to give Kyle her best self. It's what he needed, a breath of fresh air and a woman who allowed him to see just how much he lucked out with divorcing his ex-wife. They were what the other needed. They helped each other get what they always wanted out of life - out of love.

Wish I could get a glimpse of their future family...and all the arguments along the way. Hahaha.

It's apparent that Sabrina affects Kyle, "his co** went rock hard in an instant, his balls aching for release. Sh**. This he didn't need right now." Kyle is an a** everyone knows that but he's more a**y toward Sabrina than anyone else, "if you'll excuse me, I'm a bit tired from the long drive today," Sabrina said quietly. As she rose from the table, Kyle saw tears glistening in her eyes. He felt a momentary twinge of guilt but quickly pushed it aside." Kyle doesn't appreciate others naming his animals, "you're not naming my horse Spot!" He blew out a breath and turned away from Sabrina to continue saddling the gelding. "I don't know why I'm even having this conversation with you," he said, frustration ringing in his voice. "If you don't mind, I'd like to finish saddling Spot...dammit! Now you've got me calling him that stupid name." These two sure know how to put on a show for Kyle's ex and nemesis, "Kyle just doesn't care where we are. When he wants to kiss me, he does, don't you baby." Kyle he has no qualms in stating what he wants, "I'd love to eff you right now," Kyle said quietly without without looking at her." I love Jaci's books and when they're on sale I always make sure to get them.

Sabrina Daniels has spent her entire life being a prize doll. First, her mother entered her in every beauty pageant she could, just to get the prize money. Then at 18 she married Mark, who spent 8 years abusing her emotionally, telling her how to behave, how to dress, how to everything. Until Sabrina had enough and divorced him. Now she has lots of money and wants to make her dream of owning a ranch come true, only she doesn't know how to, so she invests on a ranch in exchange for ranch knowledge. There she meets Kyle Morgan, and instantly they become attracted to each other. But Kyle was burned badly before by his ex-wife and is a prideful, arrogant man who doesn't want help. So he keeps pushing Sabrina away, but Sabrina pushes back and soon their attraction is bigger than they can stand and give in to it. But Kyle's pride gets in the way of happily ever after, even though they have one big thing in common and they love each other.
