I always appreciate the clear travel information from Lonely Planet; they tend to be one of my go-to sources for a great overview and up-to-date information on a travel destination. In this guidebook, while it is a few years old at the time of reading, I found the At-a-Glance Features at the start of each section and scattered throughout the chapters to be helpful to zero in on experiences not to miss and what the appeal or significance of an attraction might be. The foldout maps and section on Paris go into more depth while the regional sections of the book provide information on top sights for a certain number of days and make recommendations for food, lodging, shopping, transportation in the region. Full color photos and sidebars provide additional details while making the facts more engaging and building interest.
There are special sections for an overview of history, France today, art and architecture, food/cuisine, and outdoor activities.

I have used a lot of Lonely Planet Guidebooks but I won't be using this one.
Neither Le Havre nor Cherbourg are listed in the index. Those are the two ports I'll be visiting this year. The book gives some recommendations for the Brittany & Normandy areas so the information about the D-Day Beaches and Mont Saint-Michel was useful for my planning.

This was a really good travel guide for France, it also has a lot of amazing colored pictures and I love that the people express their own opinions on places and certain things. It's a bit outdated but I bought it at a book sale and wasn't looking to learn anything I don't already know about France. I just love reading things like this because it motivates me more to save up and travel.
