About the author

Jill Briscoe has an active speaking and writing ministry that has taken her to many countries. She has written more than 40 books, including study guides, devotional material, poetry, and children's books.

Jill is executive editor of Just Between Us , a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership. She serves on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc.

A native of Liverpool, England, Jill launched into youth evangelism after becoming a Christian at age 18. She married her husband, Stuart, in 1958, and since then they have ministered together through Telling the Truth media ministries at conferences and mission organizations around the world. They reside in suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Stuart completed 30 years of ministry as senior pastor of Elmbrook Church. Both Stuart and Jill now serve Elmbrook as ministers-at-large. They have 3 children, David, Judy, and Peter, and enjoy the blessing of 13 grandchildren.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.

I absolutely loved hearing Jill Briscoe speak at the If:Gathering in 2017 and wanted to read something written by this woman who has spent half a century following Jesus and telling others about Him. Her memoir of her childhood and early adulthood was a great read (There's A Snake In My Garden). This collection of reflections, poems, and short stories from her life focus on her relationship with God in different life seasons. The Deep Place Where Nobody Goes is her name for her soul conversations and prayers to God. She is deeply imaginative and uses metaphors a lot so she writes of it as if it is a true place and that God is responding to her as He sits on the steps of her soul in that deep place and gently reminds her of His truth, corrects her, and encourages her. She wrote about topics such as humility, difficult days, the passing years, Christmas and Easter. Her writing is beautiful and she pens simple yet profound poetry, but it wasn't a book that I fell in love with. I think it may be because I get uneasy with authors who write from God's perspective (what He said to them) because the logical side of me is thinking, "How do you know He said that and it wasn't just your imagination?" I don't want to doubt she had conversations with God as she said, and there was not anything that she wrote that was contradictory to the Bible or how it depicts God and His truths. I just don't usually like this genre/type of Christian writing, so it wasn't a favorite.

What a beautiful book! Jill writes with such smooth ease and since I heard her speak at If Gathering, I could hear her voice as I read each page. Her prayer life is transparent and she does a great job letting the reader see the deep place where nobody goes! Good read!
Note: I believe this book is now out of print so hopefully you can find it at a library or you might find it on a book website on a resale. It’s worth the hunt.

By far, this is one of my favorite books - ever. Now, it is small but it is mighty. Each year I purchase new copies to give away as random gifts. I keep a copy in my desk at work and a copy in my living room. I read and re-read her words aloud to my family on a regular basis. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Her book didn’t leave as big an impression on me as hearing her speak. Would not recommend.
