I had a beaten old copy of this book in a plain red binding. It had been my father's in the 1940's. The illustrations inside were a vauge collection of clipart and photographs that seemed only just related to the stories. It was hokey and preachy.
I LOVED it. Not so much the bible stories, but the other stories. The stories of little girls and boys being bad (or sometimes good, as with the kids who started the parcel company that gave secret random gifts to people in need)and getting fantastically PUNISHED for it. The greedy little boy who always took the best things for himself was given EMPTY pie and a rotten apple. The little girl who was only nice at school but rotten to her mother gets humilated when her beloved teacher is hidden in the drawing room and hears what a stinker she really is. The little girl who opened the cabinent she was not supposed to touch and then the cat ruins her fancy cake her mother made and she doesn't get any cake!!! This is all from memory! I'm 33 years old and these stories are imprinted in my mind forever! I'm not sure if they helped me be a better person, but I suspect they did.

My kids and I have the 5 volume set of these and they are wonderful for inspiring us to live our lives by good Christian values. Each volume is filled with stories of inspiring men, women, and children who live their lives by values or learn values by experiences. They get pulled out all the time for bed-time stories and my kids usually beg to be read the next story. We have really enjoyed them.

The book I have is a hardcover edition collection of childrens bedtime stories that teach terrific morals...I loved them. The last couple stories were about the second comming and I thought they were a little strong and perhaps off a little from my beliefs so I just skip them.

This whole series is great. Some of the most memorable stories with lessons are in these books. The kids love the colorful pictures and the stories are fun while teaching virtues and character.
