Body: The Complete Human

Rate this book
Body engagingly reveals the complex and fascinating systems of the human machine — from head to toe, cells to skin, inner workings to outward appearance. Organized by body system, the chapters offer a balanced combination of basic anatomical and physiological information. Noted science writers Lisa Stein, Trisha Gura, and Patricia Daniels provide descriptions that are clear, accurate, and accessible to readers on every level. Colorful diagrams, amazing photographs, and miraculous 3- and 4-dimensional imagery — generated by cutting-edge tools — complement the text. The drawings of visionaries such as Leonardo Da Vinci illustrate historic advances in medical science. Special-topic sidebars address today's most relevant concerns such as keeping healthy and medical breakthroughs. For easy reference, each chapter includes its own glossary of terms. Cross-referencing tools guide readers to related information and an appendix offers a full glossary, timeline of medical discoveries, and biographies of key pioneers in the field. Enhancing this book's authority are a foreword by acclaimed neurologist Richard Restak, bestselling author of 18 books on the brain; and the guidance of advisers from prestigious medical establishments.

Great information. Unfortunately some of the language is offensive and dated.

Reference dressed to the nines..

I received this book as a gift from my sis-in-law, who's a nurse. On the surface, it seems like a sensible addition to any bookshelf--it's a biology textbook, a health-&-fitness guideline, a reference for what ails you.

But in actuality, it's a gorgeous coffee table book that's impossible to put down once you've picked it up. Amazing photos, beautiful illustrations, interesting history, & enlightening instruction, all presented in a family-friendly manner that makes it a safe bet to leave on your coffee table in the first place.

Surprised this has no reviews. I wanted to learn more about how the human body works and found this to be just what I was looking for - less daunting than a university physiology text, but not too simplistic. Excellent colour graphics throughout. The blurb for this book pitches it more as an instructional book for understanding your own health and staying in good health - I don't think that's an accurate description of the book's content, and found those sidebars in the book less compelling.

Of interest to those who need an understanding of the parts of the body and the interrelationships between them. Also the effect of outside influences like viruses and how the body reacts to repel and attack such invasions. Not overly technical but provides a basic understanding of the subject matter.

I'm taking A&P next semester, so I wanted to find a decent introductory book to the human body. This was all I could find at the library, and it did its job sufficiently enough that I'm giving it a three star rating. There were some nice illustrations.

Amazing photos, beautiful illustrations, interesting history. I really enjoyed this book, even though I did not get all the way through it before it was due back at the library, will check it out again in the near future!
