Sewing in SoCal #1

Molly: Nannies Don’t Fall for Their Single-Father Bosses

Rate this book
Someone should have told her the first rule of nannying--don't fall in love with the single father.

There are a few things everyone should know about Molly Osbourne.

1. She refuses to say anything that isn't true. No white lies. Not even to spare someone's feelings. It's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help her God.
2. Always telling the truth can have dire consequences--like losing one's job.
3. Sewing is just one of her many creative outlets, and she wouldn't trade her sewing group friends for the world.

Molly Osbourne has her reasons for her rigid truth-telling policy, even if no one really understands said reasons. No one, including her boss. Molly finds herself unexpectedly fired from her job only to realize seconds later that she'd had an audience to her failure in the impossibly handsome Dr. Ben, a single father to one of her preschool students. Er...former student.

Ben Reed is doing all that he can just to survive, but juggling a residency at the hospital while trying to raise his four-year-old-daughter by himself is not a recipe for success. He needs help. Like, yesterday. When he overhears his daughter's teacher getting fired, the perfect solution for both of them presents itself He'll hire her to be Chloe's nanny. As his daughter would say, easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Except the simplest solutions sometimes turn out to have complications of their own. Especially when hearts--and a matchmaking preschooler--start to get involved.

So. Funny. I loved Molly's voice! Fresh, quirky, self-aware, and self-accepting. The honesty policy sounds like a good life rule... until you quickly learn how convenient it can be to bend the truth in uncomfortable situations- like the one that got Molly fired. Ironically, her candid, scientific answer about body functions also gets her hired by the handsome and desperate doctor to care for his precocious daughter. Of course, attraction ensues while Molly becomes an integral part of the little family, though not without some all-too-realistic mishaps. I liked how the author shows how Molly's childhood experiences have influenced the importance of integrity in her life. The story is told from both Molly and Ben's first person POV, which made it interesting and fun to get in Ben's head as well. Recommend to fans of clean contemporary romance and especially those who loved The Match by Sarah Adams.

Molly is a fun introduction to Sarah Monzon’s new romantic comedy series, Sewing in SoCal. Readers who are familiar with Sarah Monzon’s Carrington Family time-slip novels will enjoy this series, even though it is a different genre of Christian fiction than her previous novels.

Molly is such an entertaining character, and Sarah Monzon creates many laugh out loud moments in the story as Molly is so honest that she refuses to tell a lie. I’m sure many of us know someone in our lives who is like that…with no filter, but genuinely trying to the right thing by being honest no matter what. The close friendship that Molly has with her sewing girlfriends is heartwarming, and I can't wait for more of these friends’ adventures as the Sewing in SoCal series continues.

As I was reading this novel, the only difficulty I had was that the main characters, Ben and Molly, both had their stories told in first person. Although Ben and Molly’s first-person stories were in different chapters, I had several interruptions from my own young children as I was reading and I would forget who was telling that chapter of the story…Ben or Molly.

Even though the tone of this novel is light and fun, Sarah Monzon does touch on some topics that are extremely relevant to our current times, such the beauty of diversity and renouncing prejudice and racism. I look forward to reading Jocelyn’s story in book two of the series! Well done!

Molly is recommended for fans of inspirational romantic comedy.

Sarah Monzon has crafted a laugh-out-loud, swoon-enticing read!

Molly is the first book in the Sewing in SoCal series and a guarantee you'll wan to read the other books in the series.

Molly, herself, is witty, brutally honest, and it all makes for hilarity in between the swooning that the hero, Ben, brings to the story. I couldn't stop reading this book and it confirmed why I'm a fan of Ms. Monzon.

Start of a romcom series with friends as main characters for each one. Molly is studying to be an elementary education teacher and gets fired for being too honest with her pre-school class. She then gets hired on as nanny for one of the students in her class.

MOLLY is the first book in the Sewing in SoCal series by Sarah Monzon. Let me tell you, I loved every page of the fun and hysterical story. Sarah had me giggling out loud with tears in my eyes. Molly has no filter and insists on telling it like it is. She never lies and gets fired from her teaching job for telling a five year old student what a tampon is and used for. Plus there was the time she told her class of four and five year olds that Santa doesn’t really exist! Like I said, no filter.😂

On the same day MOLLY gets fired from the pre school, she has a parent chasing her out of the school trying to talk to her. Dr. Ben Reed is in his last years of residency and finds himself barely keeping his head above water. He is a single dad of one of Molly’s students, Chloe. He is trying to offer Molly a job. MOLLY is going to have you giggling out loud and if you are like me, you will be snorting quite a few times as well.

If you are looking for a fun read then you have to pick up MOLLY by Sarah Monzon. MOLLY is the perfect way to spend the afternoon, on your couch with your favorite beverage. Soon, you will be falling in love with all the people in this heart warming and sweet story. Will Ben and Molly ever be able to heal their broken hearts and move on from their painful pasts? Read this wonderful contemporary to find out! I can’t wait to continue this fun and sweet series!

Molly was such a fun read! The book begins in a memorable way and you can tell right then who Molly is…and how she is SO honest/direct that she sometimes says things that she shouldn't. lol

I thought the romance was really sweet. Ben was a great hero and someone that obviously cared about his daughter very much. I felt so bad for him when learning what happened with his wife.

All in all, Molly was very good and a book I recommend. I'm looking forward to reading future books in this series.

MOLLY is about a quirky, won't-tell-a-lie woman who finds that her honesty has landed her jobless, but is rescued by one of her former student's father who needs a nanny. She has a group of friends who are a riot, who gather regularly for their sewing group (although some of them come for moral and food support and not to sew). Mix in an adorable four-year-old and sparks between her father and the new nanny and you have a delightful read!

Molly was seriously such a quirky, sweet, and fun character! A bit radical in her desire to always be one hundred percent honest (and not always in ways I agreed with), but it's that tendency that lands her as a nanny for the dashing Dr. Ben. What ensues is a heartfelt story with plenty of humor and a few sparks. I particularly loved the scene when Ben shows up to help Molly's friend who cut her foot. So hilarious! I'm very curious to see how the other stories who center on the rest of the friends in this group turn out.

My one complaint would be the ending. I was enjoying the slowly-building romance and then it just seemed to speed up and be done and all tied with a bow without further development. I also wasn't too keen on Ben's parents and what was decided at the end either - it felt like a forced and a bit of an unrealistic plot point when Ben has a three bedroom house, among other things.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This was a very entertaining read! Great characters, a sweet child, plenty of humor, and a delightful romance.

Molly is the best kind of romance. The smile plastered across your face as you read can’t be helped, and the contented sigh upon reaching the perfect ending is completely beyond your control. Told from the perspectives of an earnest teacher whose classroom is taken away from her and a hardworking doctor whose most important job is that of single father, Sarah Monzon’s Molly captures the abundance of joy that exudes from the little girl who brings Molly and Ben together. Stitching together powerful backstory, effortless dialogue, and characters who deserve only the happiest of endings, Molly delights from beginning to contented sigh end.

5 Stars! (Scratch that, I give it all the stars in the sky!)

This book is rom-com perfection!
Sarah Monzon is one of my favorite authors, and anytime she writes a new book I automatically want to read it even before I know a thing about it, such was the case with Molly! This book was at the top of my most anticipated list for 2020! A quirky, pink haired heroine who refuses to tell a lie? A hunky, single dad, doctor hero? SIGN ME UP!
As soon as I started this ARC I was completely immersed in the story and before I knew it I was at the halfway mark, and I totally would have finished it in one sitting if, you know, life hadn't interfered with my reading time (Grrrrr!)
Oh my goodness, Molly is everything I dreamed it would be and so much more!
I was spellbound from page one, and I loved every single word!
Molly was a fabulous character that I found myself relating to quite a bit, she is so loveable and delightfully real, and she's someone I'd love to be friends with! And Ben, can you say dreamboat? He is so kind, caring, protective, devoted, selfless, funny, incredibly sweet, and just the tiniest bit adorably nerdy. He had me melting from the beginning, at which point he stole my heart and has yet to return it to me! Ladies, you're going to want to have your fan and perhaps a fainting couch handy because Dr. Ben Reed is swoony with a capital S!
Chloe is adorable, and she has become one of my all time favorite child characters! I loved the other ladies in the sewing group and I'm so looking forward to reading each of their stories (and can I just say that Sewing in SoCal is the BEST series title ever?!)
This book is absolutely hilarious, before I finished chapter three I had lost count of how many times this book made me laugh out loud! This book kept me in stitches from start to finish, and there isn't a single thing about this book that I would change!
This book made my heart smile, and there truly aren't words to describe just how much I loved it!
This book is perfection! It's a must read that I can't recommend highly enough! Buy it, read it, you won't be sorry!
Molly is beyond amazing, completely delightful, and definitely has a spot on my list of favorite reads of 2020!

One of the things I love about Sarah Monzon's books is her ability to write serious subjects as well as whimsical stories that are just pure fun! Molly is just that, pure fun!

Having lived in the So California area it was a ton of fun revisiting places I am familiar with.

Molly is a fun story and perfect for summer! I laughed at not only Molly's antics but Chloe was adorable and the romance between Ben and Molly was sweet.

Having been a Navy brat I definitely understood Molly's difficulty with moving and her determination to not tell a lie, which lands her in hot water as the story opens. Thankfully, I always knew we were moving. Unlike Molly.

This is a must read and a great kick off to Ms. Monzon's new series Sewing in SoCal!

A sweet, immersive read that balances setting with character and features a strong emotional resonance. Both Ben and Molly's intimate povs are winsome and vulnerable and the research around Ben's medical job is meticulous. Sewing in SoCal is a winning Christian alternative to the steamier general marketing books by Penny Reid but the strong threads of female friendship amidst what we gather will be the founding of the heroines in prospective series is welcome. I enjoyed Ben's relationship with his daughter, his feelings of inadequacy and the slow barriers that fall as he learns how to love again.

A smart, handsome beta hero is always on the menu.

Readers of Nicole Deese's "Before I Call You Mine" and Melissa Tagg's "From The Start" will find a lovely home here with plenty of heart, humour and winning turns of phrase!

( I also wanna dye my hair pink)

content note: there is an employer/ employee relationship here as Molly works as Ben's nanny/ housekeeper.

Laugh-yourself-silly good. Seriously, as much fun as the cover promises. Oh -- and a word of advice from one bibliophile to another...don't read (or listen as in my case) to this book out in public because, well, unrestrained glee is hard to curtail and people will stare. And then start to avoid you. ..Wait. I just realized Molly is the perfect social distancing tool. Hearty guffaws and inelegant snorts will keep people the required six feet (and more!) away. You'll be performing your civic duty by reading this book in public. :-)

Molly and Ben's story made me swiddy -- that's when your swoon turns giddy -- which happened to me a lot during my read. Swoon because -- hello -- Ben!!! In all his earnest nerdishness. His devotion to his daughter! His heart-tugging backstory. And giddy because -- Molly! Her penchant for complete honesty puts her in the most outrageous situations. Not to mention conversations. The way the author throws out random one liners is like comedic artillery. Then, when you're doubled over with laughter, she broadsides you with a hit of truth so searing you can't catch your breath.

I'm absolutely thrilled that this is the first book in a series because Molly has friends -- the kind that always have your back and aren't afraid to speak truth into your life whether you want to hear it or not. I can't wait to read all their stories. Sarah Monzon can't release them fast enough as far as I'm concerned!

I listened to the audible edition of Molly narrated by Stevi Incremona. She did a great job of bringing these characters to life and made the read all the more enjoyable. Hoping the rest of the series comes out in audible as well!

It has been a long while since I was captivated by a book to the point where I did not put it down. The characters were so strong and I have to say, Chloe was a highlight of the story.

I was really enthralled by the storytelling. This book just seemed to flow right along and there were no hiccups of any sort. I felt like I could have been there with the characters.

The reason I moved the rating down half a star was because I did not feel like I was able to tell apart the girls of the SoCal group. They seemed to blur together and that may have to do with the fact that this is the first book though.

I highly recommend this one to fans of Melissa Ferguson and Kara Isaac. It will not disappoint.

Rating: 4.5/5

Romance: a kiss, death of a spouse

This was not my kind of book.
Sometimes I enjoy a well written romance story, but this story just didn’t cut it for me. Several times I almost stopped reading, but decided to keep going because I did like Molly, Ben, and Chloe.
Molly needs to learn about tact and that speaking the truth is important, but there is a time and a place to redirect a child’s questions without lying to them.
I didn’t care for the multiple mentions of how handsome Ben was, and how he looked, or how their emotions and feelings brought all sorts of thoughts into their heads. And there was some kissing.
This was a Christian book, but it felt sort of forgotten most of the time.
Anyway, others may enjoy this story, but I didn’t.

Molly
What a fun and humorous romance! Sarah Monzon’s latest novel, Molly delivers with dialogue that invokes laughter and a romance that develops so naturally that you can’t help but root for these characters get together! I love a good rom-com that offers me a carefree escape without approaching the realm of totally unrealistic. Molly was well balanced and enjoyable. The characters were easy to like and their relationship seemed to develop naturally which doesn’t always happen in the fiction world. While Molly’s compulsion to always tell the truth initially grated a bit for me, I ultimately came to a place of understanding with that particular part of her character. Circumstances in the novel offer her a chance to grow, her truth compulsion was well explained, and it helped me to understand her motivations and accept them. This book was adorable and I am really excited to see where the rest of this series goes! This seems like such a fun group of characters to feature in a series!

I was thinking movie, but now...

The second time I read this, I decided someone needs to make this into a movie. (Just not HM because this book is way better quality without a trace of cheese.) But then I recalled that Jocelyn is coming out soon, and will be followed by several other friends. So that means a series. But then I realized books are always better than movies or TV anyway, so never mind. BUT, that’s how fun this book is! I can’t even believe how much of it I’ve highlighted already. Rom com fun, but also the substance and character growth we’re used to seeing from Ms. Monzon. And the cover? (Have you seen the next one?) Gorgeous!

Okay, I’m gushing. But that’s okay, because even though I just finished reading this book AGAIN (and I hardly ever reread), I’m still on the same book high I got the first time. Dr. Ben is just the best. A real hero who thinks and feels and acts like a real guy and is just the best single daddy to sweet, hilarious Chloe. And the best word I can find for Molly is lovable. She’s completely and utterly lovable. Fun, quirky, a little over the top at times, but all heart and kindness.

I’ll quit gushing now, promise. Just go pick up this book and then preorder/buy/check out KU for the next one. And then whatever ones come after that. I don’t have to have read them yet to know they’re going to be amazing.

Can life get any more strange for Molly? It seems to change with the flip of a coin, one minute she's doing one thing and the next it’s something entirely different.
OH! I really didn’t want this book to end! I wanted to keep reading more about Molly and Ben, and what life has in store for them. I felt like they had become my friends and I was part of their lives. I loved all the banter and tension between the two main characters, but I also loved getting to know Chloe. She was such a spitfire and a fun, sweet character!
The characters in this book came alive and captured my heart. They went through issues in their lives where they needed to dig deep and really search for answers. They also found the strength to meet those battles through their friends and through God.
Now I would be crazy if I left out the wonderful friends Molly had. Those ladies all had great personalities and quirkiness! I can’t wait to get to know them in the next books.
Sarah Monzon has written another fantastic book and the beginning of a new series. I really will be waiting on pins and needles to read the next books in this series.
I highly recommend picking up this book, it’s fun and delightful!

This was a fun story. I really liked the way the chemistry developed between Ben and Molly. I have to admit, though, as I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Molly. There is a difference between being truthful and spewing information that is not age appropriate at children. I did not like that Molly did not seem to know how to balance the two, and I hoped she would learn common sense regarding her truth telling.

But she ended up really growing on me and I appreciated learning her background regarding why she had developed this truth telling compunction.

Molly’s empathy and her caring toward Ben and his daughter, Chloe, was perfect. Her sweet heart was obvious in those moments.

Ben was a great character who had loved his late wife dearly. It was great to see him awaken to love again as his feelings for Molly emerged. He felt like a very real character, just making his way through work each day and trying to be a good father to his daughter. There were plenty of lighthearted and fun moments in this romantic comedy novel, but good heart moments, as well.

Honesty can be a virtue, a coping mechanism and, in cases where matters of work or the heart are involved ... a liability. Molly Osbourne, the chronically candid title character in Sarah Monzon’s newest romantic comedy novel, has the dubious distinction of experiencing the consequences of all three.

Molly is a delightfully funny protagonist, but her quirkiness doesn’t detract from the charm of her innately loving personality. That charm certainly isn’t lost on Dr. Ben Reed, a kind and occasionally hapless widower whose life is centered on caring for patients and his adorable four-year-old daughter. When Ben hires Molly to look after his daughter, sigh-inducing chemistry ensues, but to turn it into something lasting, they have to overcome past heartache and present insecurities.

Molly and Ben’s story is a wonderful blend of funny romantic escapism and character authenticity. There are swoon-worthy moments galore, but the fact that they are brought to life by two flawed and multi-layered characters gives these moments a sweetness and honesty that you don’t often find in romantic comedies.

I highly recommend this book to fans of uplifting love stories with plenty of laughs.

What a wonderful lighthearted and fun story! I completely enjoyed my time with these engaging characters. Chloe stole my heart with her 4-year old zest and personality. Absolutely adorable and completely realistic, she reminded me of my nieces.

Molly & Ben have the bet met-cute. I especially enjoyed their witty banter and their growing friendship. Right from the very first chapter, this story captured my imagination and kept my attention all the way until the last words on the page. This story got me out of my reading slump.

Molly was a sweet contemporary romance featuring a single father falls for the nanny trope, a quirky heroine who was honest to a fault, and a colorful cast of secondary characters.

I really liked the hero, Ben. He was a hardworking doctor committed to putting his sweet four-year-old daughter first and believed his chance at love had already come and gone. Molly was exactly who he needed – kind and tenderhearted. She saw the burden of Ben’s responsibilities and wanted to help in any way she can. Their romance was sweet, and it was easy to see this trio become a family.

What else did I like about this book? I adored Chloe, Ben’s daughter; she was such a charmer, a constant source of hilarity, and I loved that she realistically embodied her age. I loved the diversity in this book. I also enjoyed Molly’s friends and their interactions; a likeable and dynamic bunch with more than enough appeal to keep me engaged.

However, I didn’t like Molly’s compulsory need to always tell the truth, which was an essential part of her character and strangely the biggest issue I had with this book. As a teacher and nanny, Molly repeatedly allowed her rigid honesty to outweigh a parent’s right to discuss sensitive topics with their children when they deemed it appropriate. This just rubbed me the wrong way and tampered my love for story altogether. Since this issue was addressed in the beginning, I didn't think too warmly of Molly at first. However, her reasons for never lying (even a lie of omission) did shine a light of understanding, and I, eventually, was able to warm up to her a little.

Overall, Molly was a decent read.

Can we talk about this fun cover? As soon as I saw it I knew I had to read it. Yes, I am totally one of those visual people that judges the book by the cover. I am really trying to get better! I love that we meet both characters right at the beginning of the book. Molly is such a fun and endearing character. We meet her at the beginning of the book as she is being let go from her job for being too honest with the kids, and although it is sad, it is the best thing for her as we meet Ben who is looking for a nanny for his daughter.

Oh the love story between them is quite lovely! I love how they relate to each other and both have their quirkiness and awkwardness that makes them relatable. They are both drawn to each other right away but don't act on it for different reasons. You will laugh (out loud at times) at their interactions and swoon a bit!

I love the group of friends that she has and their hobby! They are the girlfriends that we all want to be with and have in our corner. They all bring something different to the friendship group. I can't wait to read their own stories!

Sarah Monzon did a great job at introducing this new fun series! She does touch on some current topics to our time which I felt were out of place in the scheme of the story but then again I am one of those people that when I read fiction its to get away from all the current things going on in our world.

With a flare of humor, a boatload of cuteness, and a sweet romance Molly is a five-star rom-com!

Having seen the cover of Molly quite a while ago I have been looking forward to reading it, I've enjoyed Mrs. Monzon's books two years now, after winning a copy of her Book Nerds and Boyfriends and was hooked!

So, I highly recommend you go order your copy … NOW!

17 up due to this being a romance and . . . Well, sometimes Molly’s always telling the truth brings her to, well, awkward conversations.

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Such a fun read! If you liked her book nerds series, you’re sure to enjoy this one too! The first of a new series, this full-length novel was a sheer delight. Clean, sweet romance and a modern storyline with a Christian, non preachy base. The information about the Navy surely comes from her own life experience and was interesting for me to learn about as well. I’m looking forward to reading Jocelyn’s story next. Congratulations on your new series! It’s sure to be a great success.
