2. Appropriate grade level(s): This book is appropriate for preschool to grade 3.
3. Summary: Each letter of the alphabet is assigned to an animal. Following the letter and the animal it represents is a poem about the animal. These poems are lighthearted and whimsical, and are relatively short. Along with the letter, the animal, and the poem is either fine art, folk art, line drawings, a sculpture, or a photograph that visually displays the animal.
4. I think this book is great because there are multiple activities you can do with the book for different grade levels. The book can be simply used to learn about the alphabet (the order of the letters, how they sound, what they look like) while also learning about different animals and poetry concepts. The book also has larger vocabulary words in it so they could be talked about and learned more in depth.
5. Uses in the classroom:
-This book can be used to learn about the alphabet
-A lesson on different types of animals; pick a letter for the day, and from the book, read the poem and learn about the animal for that day… continue until all the animals from the book have been learned about.
-The older kids can learn about poems: the different lengths and structures of them, the rhyme scheme, etc.
-Lesson on rhyme and learn about different rhyming words
-Children can have time to share about their favorite animal
