We gave this book to my 10-year-old son for Christmas. This book is an absolute treasure. It is in the hidden characters, hidden objects genre, and he has spent literally hours with the book. I have seen him with it on at least 10 days since Christmas studying each of the intricate illustrations, and trying to perform the tasks and "quests" set forth in the book. His younger siblings and even his 11-year-old brother have also spent hours with the book. The book does a fine job of creating a series of quests which need to be accomplished, instead of just providing a list of things to find. I've done some of the activities with him when we read at night, and I too find the book delightful.
This is absolutely one of my favorite books from Usborne. If you want a book with fantastic illustrations, this would be the one. It is basically like an advanced search book. The best way for me to describe it is Video Game in a Book!
Great introduction to fantasy. Similar to and I-Spy but has a story line. Readers are searching for specific items while getting deeper into a fantasy story.
4.5 stars. This is a collection of four smaller "quest" books that children (and adults) will love! It's the extreme version of Where's Waldo, so some children might get frustrated since the riddles and hidden images are sometimes hard to find and solve. The illustrations are beautiful. It's a really fun activity for the family.
