Is It Time to Make a Change?: Positive Thoughts for When Life Presents You with a New Direction

Rate this book
In this candid and upbeat first collection of her work, Deanna Beisser gives new meaning to the statement, "Anything is possible." Her words capture all the doubts, fears, and excitement that occur whenever a life change is contemplated. Yet her refreshingly down-to-earth attitude and life-only-happens-once-so-enjoy-it! philosophy are quick to put the reader at ease. In short, this is a book about letting your life be the wonderful adventure it is meant to be. The opportunity to redirect your life's path and begin anew exists every day. The only person holding you back is you, and the only way your life is going to change is when you decide it is. Whether it's a little motivation you need or a reminder of the power you have within you to make things happen, this book is the perfect place to start. After that, it's up to you, because... "Life makes no guarantees as to what you'll have. It just gives you time to make choices, and to take chances, and to discover whatever secrets might come your way." - Deanna Beisser

I should liken Deanna Beisser to Anne of Green Gables although I have no the slightest idea of how old she is; I feel her poems are so idyllic but close to the reality. Although her prose is not as beautiful as Emily Dickinson’s, but her poems are so inspiring and motivating for someone like me, although I’m getting along on in years, who needs words, phrases, or sentences to CHANGE one’s negative thoughts. In fact, I read it sotto voce to understand as well as internalize the meanings of her poems like reading a yoga prayer (Yoga Shlokas). And I will do it again at my leisure or whenever I feel lonely.Besides, the poems are more interesting, for each poem is written in different colored pages as well as its book covers are designed with works of art. I’m not sure of whether Deanna Beisser or it may have been her publisher must have decided the designs of the book. But their clever idea works! I could feel the Pollyanna principle atmosphere ^^

If you’re an exceptional writer with hubris, you might consider it “basic”. But the writer herself, I think, had deeper reasons and inspiration why she managed to put her feelings and thoughts into beautiful sentences. I felt them. So might you. ^^

I'll be the first to admit, I picked this up purely for nostalgia - my grandmother bought several of these when I was wee teenager, and I cherished those books. So when I found this at a used bookstore, regardless, it was coming home with me. Not the greatest poetry around, but maybe I'll find a little something uplifting.

In a weird way, it felt like a little sign from her, a little nudge.

From the title, I thought this book was going to be a manual, a guide, to sorting out how to think about making changes, how to cope with changes that are thrust upon you.
Instead, it's a book of sappy poetry that repeats over and over again that you can't hold on to anything in life but must learn to "go with the flow."
Definitely not what I had in mind.

I absolutely Love this book! The Prayers, Affirmations and Quotes are absolutely awesome. Sometimes I randomly pick it up, open to a page and read a message for the day. I would recommend for anyone looking for a modernized prayer book.

I am embarrassed that I read this book. I have 18 books and 1 month left in my Reading Challenge, and I'm worried I won't finish. This book had a beautiful, colorful cover and the paper is very thick. It's even embossed to make it seem like handmade paper. Inside, there are a bunch of poems that don't rhyme which are supposed to be motivational. I was not impressed.

Example: "Every breath is counted and time is timeless. One day I will be gone."

Example 2: "Don't stand in someone else's shadow when it's your sunlight that should lead the way."
