The Promise of Immortality is the most complete commentary available on the parallel passagesin the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita, Indias ancient scripture. This groundbreaking book illuminatesthe similarities between these two great scriptures in a way that vibrantly brings them tolife. The Promise of Immortality makes a convincing argument for the potential unity of allreligious belief. An unprecedented era of cooperation and harmony among the worlds differentreligions seems possible as Walters clarifies apparent differences in religious teachings to reveal atimeless, underlying truth.
Kriyananda (born James Donald Walters; May 19, 1926, Azuga – April 21, 2013, Assisi) was a direct disciple of the yogi Paramahansa Yogananda, and the founder of the Ananda, a worldwide movement of spiritual intentional communities based on Yogananda's World Brotherhood Colonies ideal. Yogananda made Walters a minister for his organization, Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF).
A curious thing I realized midway through this book is that the commentaries on "the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita" are mostly about the Bible. And come to think of it, Rays of the One Light (on which this book is an expanded commentary) is the same way. Still, the interpretations of the Bible are beautifully done, even if the Gita only shows up sort of as "supporting evidence." I hope Swamiji does eventually write the second volume. [Edit: Well, too late for that, but it would have been nice.]
