He was the son of Dwijendralal Ray (or Roy). In 1965, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, awarded him its highest honour for lifetime achievement, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship.

A dense thicket of ideas and real-life characters, yet quite rewarding. Indira's engaging account of spiritualism/mediumship within her spiritual path is further detailed more scientifically by Dilip in part 3.
