I first read this series when I was about 12, and I ADORED it. It was taken out of my public library due to poor circulation (so sad), so I forgot about it until I came across it on Amazon a little over a year ago. I couldn't find it in any public library system anymore, so I decided on a whim to buy the entire series (which I ended up getting for about 30$). I read the entire series last summer and was blown away. I had completely forgotten the entire thing with the except of Morgan being a wit ...more

SWEEP I: Love. Danger. Magick.

Book 1: Book of Shadows
Morgan isn't a special girl or so she thought; she is loved by her friends and family, her life is basic and normal until a new guy enrolls in their school in the beginning of their school year named Cal. He is every girls' crush including Morgan. He befriends every clique in high school and invites them to a party where he introduces them to wicca and magick! Morgan is more t

This is a bind-up version of sweep series. 1) Book of Shadows; 2) The Coven; 3) Blood Witch

I am surprised that I was able to finish this book. It took me 5 days to read it and it is so frustrating because I endured reading that long and yet the book did not get any better. I think the writing is too juvenile. Hate the characters… Morgan is so annoying, and sometimes selfish. Cal is arrogant and I did not like him at all. Mostly the characters are too childish and irritating.

I think the plot has

Overview of Volume 1:

I made a mistake with this book(s). Usually, when I read a series of books I find that it is best to read and review each book as I go, otherwise plots and characters get a little screwy in my head. Well, I’m good and screwy on this one because I read the first book, then because I lack any self control whatsoever, I dove right into the second book, then the third, the fourth, the fifth…oh y

Hm.
I'm not going to get that much into it.
I didn't connect with the characters and therefore I didn't care. AT ALL.
I didn't care for the characters, for the story and I don't care how the story continues. I'm honestly quite surprised that I finished it that fast. I mean I don't quit books. I belong to those who force themselves to finish a book. I guess the only good thing that comes to my mind is that it was fast-paced and easy to read. But overall it was a total letdown.

This book is about a girl named Morgan Rowland s. She was a normal teenager, starting her senior year of high school, with the same group of friends. Everything was normal to her in widow's val. Until Cal Blair moved to town. Cal was the hot kid at school everyone liked him, including morgan, and her best friend. Cal was also the cool kid, Cal was also a witch. He practiced the religion of Wicca and most found it stupid or scary. Morgan and several others found it magikal ( and no the spell is c ...more

I read the Sweep series for the first time last year, around this time. While my husband was away at Basic Training, I finally had peace and quiet to finally read! And it was this series that got me back into reading again. So in that sense, this series will always have a special place in my heart. And besides that, it's a pretty awesome series!

I could related a lot to Morgan. I grew up Catholic but I never really thought I fit in there, it just never really felt like it was for me. I was always

eh wtf did I just read? i was so exctied to read this serie because i loved tiernans other serie. But I got really disapointed, the characters are childish and selfish. I disliked morgan, she was so annoying cause she was so insecure with herself. She was just a plain girl who followed a popular girl. the whole book was soo unrealistic, a new boy make a circle and says that he is a freaking blood witch and everyone accept that anf doesn’t think that weird... and Morgan out of the blue starts to ...more

blah!! I think this has got to be the most boring book I've ever read! The characters were boring, the plot was predictable and just when you think tiernan is leading up to something profound, it fizzles with something rediculously unimaginative. I honestly have no idea how on earth this book got the ratings it has.

Okay, Cal is shady as hell. I want to like Morgan but she's so naive when it comes to him. I don't like how little answers this book gave though. You'd expect them to at least answer some questions but it's like this series has to be read as one big book.

I usually don't go for these kinds of books, but i do love a good witch story. I bought this series not expecting much from it, but i finished all 5 volumes (15 books) in roughly 2 weeks.

When i started the series i thought it was going to focus on romance the whole time and portray Morgan (the main girl), as nothing but a teenage girl who's goal is to find her own prince charming. I was proven wrong. Throughout the series you see Morgan struggle with aspects of her life - whether that be school

Note: I’m reading this series in its original single installments, but I’m reviewing the bindups because there simply isn’t enough content in each tiny book to review them all individually!

Morgan is a self-proclaimed (and frequently-proclaimed) plain Jane who can’t believe it when the god-like new kid in town falls in love with her and helps her discover that she’s actually a super strong witch.

The characters are cardboard (one is so vaguely referenced as ethnic that I think the author forgo

----------Book of Shadows:

I don't know why I liked this book so much. Oh wait, of course I do! Magick! Withes! Circles! Samhain!

I love books about Wicca and witchcraft. I don't know why, but I have always loved that genre. I have always loved witches, and not the Harry Potter kind of witches (even though I love those too), the real, hardcore Wiccan witches!

Book of Shadows definitely delivered that and more. Even thought it was extremely short, it set up the characters and the story so well, but

In honor of Halloween, I decided to dust off an old witch series and do a review of the entire series. There are 15 books in the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan. I started reading the Sweep series probably about 6 or 7 years ago (before my blog) when my Borders was going out of business. They had the first three bind up volumes for next to nothing so I grabbed books #1-9 (there are 3 books in each bind up) for I think $5

This series is my favorite series of all time. I read this series first when I was about 14/15 and it was love at first sight. I was completely captured by the story and characters, and above all the magic! A few people complain about how Morgan was annoying or "not confident enough" but what teenager is? I felt like I related so well at that age to all of her struggles with getting to know who she was. So rereading this series is like glimpsing into a part of my coming of age. I would recommend the book, Book of Shadows, by Cate Tiernan because it taught me new things, was interesting, and I could kind of relate to the main character. One reason why I would recommend this book is because not a lot of people now about the religion Wicca, and this book introduced it to me. Some people might think that kids should only learn about the religion they practice, and some might just not like Wicca, but the book isn’t all about Wicca, it is about a teenage girl’s life. “I pra ...more

So glad I finally got a hold of this one. I've wanted to read it for a while now. It makes me even happier that I have volume 2 and 3 as well so no waiting to continue on...at least for a while. Now, what to say about this? I love Morgan, her reactions and feelings on things are spot on in my opinion, except when it comes to Cal. I don't trust the boy. Yes, I think he likes Morgan, maybe even loves her, but there's something off about him. I think Hunter is telling the truth about him sadly. Spe ...more

Terrible, yet perfectly suited to its purpose: I picked this up at LAX for the thirteen-hour flight back to New Zealand and enjoyed it thoroughly. The writing is pretty weak, but does improve after the first book in this omnibus edition.

I'm a bit torn. It's good to see more YA works taking a positive approach to nature-based religions, but Tiernan loses points all over the place for creepy characters, clumsy plotting and the bifurcation of magickal powers. (Of course Morgan is a blood witch with

I had heard good things about this series and was curious. I was pleased to find that the main character didn't emerge as super-powerful witch after a few nose twitches.

In fact there was no nose-twitching or 'Charmed'-like magic. No, here was actual circles, training, spells, candles, meditation and inner visions. Most importantly was the way in which the author captured the excitement and sense of self-discovery experienced by a young woman who is just discovering that she has a natural talent

YA witch books make me very happy. Sweep is so great and its so "witchy". Along with the beautiful new covers I enjoyed the whole series (well almost...still haven't read the newest ones). Morgan was a great main character and in the beginning I even liked cal. That didn't last long though. I think my favorite thing about witch books is all the magic and rituals they do. It's so fascinating to read about it. I like how they formed there own Coven in this series. It's such a good read to get lost ...more

Okay to the girls who recommended reading the Sweep series KUDOS to you! I so loved this series so far. Morgan is Hilarious at times and Bree is a trip! Cal is deep and mysterious and Robbie is SOOOOOO georgeous now that he no longer has pizza face ( hahaha)

This series had reading until late this morning to finish because I had to see who won the fight between Hunter and Cal. This is a crazy series and it is dead on with Wicca information. I can not wait to read the second volume.
