Treasure Island

Unrivalled in literature, Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island is among the most delightful adventure romances of all time. From young Jim Hawkins’ first encounter with an old buccaneer and his treasure map, to the final daring skirmish with the treacherous pirate Long John Silver, Treasure Island enchants and fuels the imagination. A superbly wrought tale of goodness and villainy, it rouses the best of faraway horizons, endless possibilities, and bold exploits. Pat Boyette’s captivating artwork splendidly revives Stevenson’s beckoning vision.

Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer, and a leading representative of English literature. He was greatly admired by many authors, including Jorge Luis Borges, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling and Vladimir Nabokov.

Most modernist writers dismissed him, however, because he was popular and did not write within their narrow definition of literature. It is only recently that critics have begun to look beyond Stevenson's popularity and allow him a place in the Western canon.
