Identifying the 100 most influential musicians is extremely ambitious and arbitrary. Consequently, the selection is vulnerable to criticism and controversy (as an Australian, I am surprised that not one Australian is included - Easybeats, ACDC, Vanda and Young, Nick Cave, Go-Betweens, IXS). Some inclusions seem strange (U2, Radiohead), as do some glaring omissions (Django Reinhardt, Elton John, or any of the British indie rock movement like Stone Roses, Oasis, Blur, The Cure). Some of the writing sounds glib and opinionated, in the style of music magazines. Some interesting information, but why some were chosen and what exactly their influence was is not explained.

December 14, 2021 The book was about well I'll sure that you can tell by the title that it is about 100 of the most influential musicians of all time. It goes from classic music to grunge rock. It shows the evolution of all music and how they aren't really that different from each other. Personally, my favorite genre is classic rock but it was very interesting to see where it came from and what inspired it.

The collection does include various biographies of musicians, especially current musicians; there is no reference that includes such a variety of influential members of the music community. Also, this is a very affordable selection and would fulfill the needs of students who are looking for factual and reliable information about those particular musicians.
Purpose:
This resource was written for a younger reader, so it would meet the information needs of a variety of students with a variety of reading levels. Each entry includes date and place of birth as well as details about the contributions the musician made to the field.
Validity
This current resource provides accurate, valid, and current information that has been reviewed by authoritative sources. In addition, it is published by Britannica Educational Publishing, which has long been a reliable source for information needs. Also, because of the nature of the information and the reliability of the publisher, there is very little chance for bias in the information. Because it is so current, it will be considered up-to-date for years to come.
