Thank goodness for this and the one other book I was able to find about archaeology and anthropology at my local library! Surprising how little is written for children on this fascinating field of study. Mary Leakey was an amazing women who enjoyed researching and digging in the dirt at a time when it was unheard of for a woman to be doing such things. She followed her heart in all that she did and would be an interesting lady to have a cup of coffee with for sure!

Cute illustrations and real photos. I enjoyed learning a little more about Mary Leakey's life and work. I haven't read about her since my human anthropology classes in college.

A good overview of her life and work. It would be great if Venezia would do books on Richard and Maeve Leakey too.
