There is no reason any school or public library should be without this book. Yeah, I said it. The illustrations are of the highest quality, the selected nursery rhymes - some new, some traditional - are interesting and unusual and trip off the tongue in both languages. A treasure. And I'm going to say the same thing about Once Upon a Time / Habia una vez by Rueben Martinez, illustrated by Raul Colon. My hat is off to Harper Collins for putting this kind of investment into bilingual picture books this year.

Selections for this bilingual book of animal rhymes come from twenty different countries including Argentina, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Central America, coming together again, as the author's remark, in these United States. Written in both Spanish and English with vivid, playful illustrations, this anthology contains traditional rhymes and draws strongly from folklore of the Latino culture. Young children would delight in these tales regardless of the language. The lyrical sound of the words acoompanied by art that closely matches text will provide all the translation needed to understand and enjoy. Recommended for library story times to simply introduce the sound and song of the Spanish language to English speaking kids and vice versa with Spanish speaking kids.

I liked how this book had the Spanish language and the English language in it so just in case if a teacher was working on a lesson about poems and if she wanted to use this book they could if only if one of those students was ELL. But the story had really good artwork and it related to the poems very well too.

This book is a wonderful resource for all English Learning students! The animal nursery rhymes in both Spanish and English help students learning English to practice as well as read them in their first language. The fun art and subject matter keeps children interested and eager to read more!
